The Coast Guard was founded on December 20, 1915 in San Carlos, California as the Western Pacific Reserve Fleet. The first Coast Guard station was built at Point Conception, California. The service grew rapidly and by 1942 there were 16 stations across the country. A massive effort to build a new coast guard station in San Carlos began in 1941 and finished in 1945. It was the largest Coast Guard facility ever constructed and it played an important role in keeping open the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach during World War II. In 1970, the Coast Guard merged with other federal agencies to form the United States Department of Homeland Security. As part of this change, the Coast Guard’s mission changed from coastal security to protecting America’s borders both domestically and internationally. Today, the Coast Guard continues its important role protecting our coasts both at home and abroad through its many branches including law enforcement, search and rescue operations, maritime security assistance, environmental protection operations and more.

The San Carlos Coast Guard Auxiliary was founded in 1924. The Auxiliary has been part of the San Carlos Coast Guard since then, and currently employs over 100 people. The Auxiliary’s mission is to provide support for the Coast Guard through providing quality service, training and education opportunities for its members. In 1984, a gift from Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Hochman made possible the purchase of a new station house on Point Conception Island which served as the auxiliary’s headquarters until 2000 when it was moved to Long Beach. In 2006, a gift from Mr. and Mrs. John Eisner funded the construction of a new annex on Point Loma which doubled as the auxiliary’s command center until 2013 when it was moved to Watsonville. In 2018, a gift from Mrs. Cheryl Kapp supported the renovation of Headquarters Annex #1 which serves as an operations center for both our harbor patrol units and our public safety detachment stationed at Long Beach Airport

LACMA is open daily from 9am to 5pm except for major holidays; admission costs $25 per person or $50 for a family ticket with unlimited visits throughout the year. 3) The University Of California at Davis (UCD), which offers students many opportunities to learn about art and culture while exploring this important campus town center location within walking distance both northward towards downtownSanCarlosandwestward towards UC Davis Medical School & Research Station facilities northwestof Downtown San José . UCDopened its new Campus Village development in fall 2012 which includes 14 buildings totaling 465 residential units with full kitchens/dining halls/bars/lobbies/parking garages etc., retail spaces on two floors aboveground level as well as underground parking garage accessible by tram . It provides student housing options such as single rooms without air conditioning or shared bathrooms with no air conditioning . Admission cost$24 per person or $69 for an individual student permit plus tuition & fees plus room & board not included in price . University events are free during school hours only ; however , general admission days are charged at regular prices . The Coast Guard has been providing service to the American people since 1790. The Coast Guard was created as a result of the Second Continental Congress’s plan to protect America’s waterways and coasts from British Invasion. The Coast Guard is one of the most important organizations in America, and it plays an important role in both defense and humanitarian efforts. The Coast Guard gift history can be traced back to its earliest days. The first coast guard vessel was built in 1790 by Nicholas-Jacques Conte at his shipyard on Long Island City, New York. The Conte yawl was named for General Nicholas-Jacques Conte, who fought for the United States during the Revolutionary War. In 1814, John Jacob Astor commissioned USS Constitution, the first U.S.-flag warship ever built. Constitution served as a flagship of Commodore James Ketchum during the Mexican-American War (1846-1848). After that war, Constitution served as a depot ship for Marines stationed at San Francisco until she was decommissioned in 1851. In 1865, President Abraham Lincoln authorized construction of CSS Shenandoah under command of Rear Admiral David Dixon Porter. Shenandoah would become one of America’s most famous coastaldefense vessels and serve as part of Lane’s Squadron during World War II before being converted into an anti-aircraft warfare ship in 1951. She eventually operated out of Norfolk, Virginia until her retirement in 1992. Today, there are more than 2200 coast guard boats patrolling our nation’s waters; they play an essential role in keeping our communities safe while protecting our environment and economy. In 1846, the area that is now San Carlos County was part of Yuma County. The first European to visit what is now San Carlos County was Francisco Pacheco, who sighted the area from Rancho San Felipe in 1821. In 1847, Mission Santa Clara de Asís was founded on a small island in the center of present-day San Carlos Creek and it soon became one of the most important missions in California. The mission's administrative center was located on this island until 1795 when it moved to Monterey. The first post office at San Carlos started serving residents of present day Oceanside and unincorporated areas east of Carlsbad, on October 15, 1860. On July 16, 1861, the first town platted within modern-day San Carlos County boundaries - Fillmore - received its charter from Governor Manuel Micheltorena. It would be renamed Occidental in 1872 after Cesar Chavez became president of Mexico and many American Latinos moved to Southern California during his campaign for office there in 1968. On November 6, 1870, Don José Maria Orozco y Ulloa Post Office opened at Fillmore with six mail coaches carrying mail between Occidental and Salinas as well as passengers on horseback between Fillmore and Carmel Valley overland route (later State Route 1). On December 12th 1870 an addition station - El Centro - opened at what is now downtown Occidental by stage coach from Salinas with five coaches loaded with passengers stopping at various stations along their way including fillmore (now part of Interstate 5), central Occidental (now part of Interstate 8) and points north around central Monterey Bay. From here travelers could take a cable car or steamboat downriver to Healdsburg or Woodside where they could board Another passenger train which reached Sacramento on February 14th 1871 by way of Healdsburg then took a ferry across the Golden Gate Bridge arriving back at Oakland just before sundown due to high winds which had blown snow into Marin County throughout February
In 1892, the town of San Carlos became an unincorporated community in Santa Clara County. The first post office was established in 1892, and the name changed to San Carlos in 1909. In 1916, the community became a full city.
