The Marines of the 2nd Battalion, 7th Marine Regiment deployed a gift to San Carlos, California on November 17th in Support of Operation Neptune's Spear. The battalion had mobilized for the war in October and provided security for the city during the Christmas holidays. The battalion arrived in San Carlos on October 25th and began their deployment on November 17th. They were ordered to support Operation Neptune's Spear and arrived on site on November 24th.

Today’s economy depends heavily on agriculture and mining activities based within miles of downtown San Carlos proper as well as nearby towns such as Lodi and Menifee. Agriculture provides most of the city’s income while mining employs significant numbers of workers both inside and outside of town limits. Although manufacturing may have once played a role within the local economy too, this activity has since largely dried up due primarilyto technological advances Rather than let go of their old industries completely however some smaller companies have closed down or moved away while larger corporations continue operations hereabouts However with newer investment coming into this sector there are hopes for revitalization

The area became part of Mexico after the war. The first permanent European settlement in San Carlos was made in 1846 when American citizens arrived from New York City as part of the Gold Rush. By 1850, there were also American settlers living in nearby Salinas. In 1854, San Carlos became a town when it was founded by Captain George Swain and his band of volunteers under the leadership of Governor Antonio López de Santa Anna. The town grew rapidly due to its location at the crossroads of several wagon routes and its status as a stop on stagecoach travelers traveling between Sacramento and Monterey Bay. In 1865, San Carlos merged with other towns in January of that year during Mexican rule over California. At this time, San Carlos was one of 10 municipalities within Mexicali County which Mexican officials tried to control through strict regulations on education, trade, land ownership and social life
