A mission called Nuestra Señora de la Concepción served as a center for Mission San Clemente from 1794 until 1823 when it was moved to La Jolla because of the increasing threat from Mexico. In 1826 the Missions were razed and replaced by an adobe church and community that grew up around it including some who still live there today such as José Ortega y Gasset who wrote about his experiences in "The Wayfarer's World" in 1876. In 1912 Elisha Stevens founded what would become Pacific Gas & Electric Company with land he got from his friend Antonio Garces after Garces bought out Stevens' interest in Migratory Bird Road and three other missions in the Santa Ana Mountains near present day Disneyland Resort. From 1915 to 1951 most of what is now downtown San Clemente developed directly along Migratory Bird Road due largely to PGE's investment and its promotion of "the rediscovery" of San Clemente as a place where farming could be done without ruining nature by using pesticides or herbicides which had been used on many coastal communities since before Gold Rush days. The history of downtown redevelopment can be traced back to PGE marketing director Harry Hunnicutt's suggestion that new development should include office buildings, housing developments (which continued until the early 1970s), retail stores (which stopped developing until well into the 1990s), and a large parkland project northward along Migratory Bird Road known then as Veterans Park following United States Marine Corps Base Camp Pendleton downwind from downtown which included shopping malls (now known as Imperial Palace Mall) gasoline stations (now known as Fry’s Electronics)and hotels serving both military personnel stationed at Camp Pendleton and civilians visiting Southern California duringWorld War II before returning home each night; all within walking distance of one another through Veteran Park today! On November 11, 1933 Japanese American resident Minoru Miyake filed for US citizenship based on his education in Berkeley but withdrew seven weeks later after learning his name would be publicized because he lived near Point Loma Nuclear Power Plant northwest of town; this led to increased vigilance by local law enforcement against potential espionage activity by Japanese Americans living nearby especially given Nazi Germany's growing influence over Japan following their victory over France in 1940). After Ulysses S Grant issued Executive Order 9066 designating all American citizens "probable spies", Miyake decided notto submit himself for processing despite knowing he would likely never see daylight again outside those five years living inside Topaz Gulch incarceration camp southeast of town although all prisoners were eventually released under General Douglas MacArthur’s order administered February 15, 1945 although Miyake continued letters/telephone calls to family throughout camp]. After World War II ended hostilities subsided between America and Japan so much so that officials began hearings into whether any Japanese Americans imprisoned during WWII were “loyal” members cf Hirohito Emperor actually had direct knowledge about Hiroshima bombings yet refused surrendering authority over them - an issue ultimately resolved with Executive Order 10981 on August 14th 1946 signifying formal endofWWII program involving hundreds thousands individuals detained nationwide primarily becauseofrace
