Since the first coffeehouses opened in San Clemente, California in the late 1800s, coffee has been a popular drink throughout the city. This is especially true given that the area is rich in history and culture. The first coffeehouse in San Clemente was founded by two Italian immigrants, Giovanni and Salvatore DeAngelo, in 1892. The DeAngelo Coffee House was located on Second Street between Mission Boulevard and Jefferson Boulevard. In 1898, Angelo Batali began serving espresso at his business called Il Pizzeria (later renamed Joe’s Cafe). In 1903, he opened a second location on Third Street between Mission Boulevard and Jefferson Boulevard. Over time, other businesses followed suit and San Clemente became known as the "Coffee Capital of California." During World War II, many of San Clemente's commercial businesses were ruined by bombing raids. However, due to the popularity of coffee beans from roasted at Joe's Cafés and other businesses within town],San Clemente continued to be one of America's most important coffee centers during this timespan. A few years later (1946), Luigi Ancelotti reopened his original albergo/cafeteria called il Castello which served fresh roasted coffees until 1959 when it closed down due to financial difficulties. However, after a short hiatus period (1948-49), Ancelotti reopened his restaurant under new ownership with relocated operations at 11th Street between Alderney Avenue and Menard Drive where he still continues to serve today as an independentlyowned business with over 100 employees. After more than 50 years of continuous occupancy by different operators through various incarnations - including 8 locations total - il Castello Café finally closed its doors for good on October 12th 2009..This marks the end of an illustrious COFFEE HISTORY IN SAN CLEMENTE!

However, there have been some recent developments such as a new hospital being built in town (the first in Marin County) which will bring jobs into the community as well as help with funding for local projects like arts grants and public safety hikes needed to make sure no one is hurt while walking or biking through town center or along beach Front Street

The original mission in San Clemente were two Brothers Dominici who had been sent from Rome to establish an Missions Station in these parts. They erected a small chapel and house there on October 25th, 1795. A year later they erected another small chapel and house at present day Point Sur Boulevard and Marine Drive. Soon other Franciscans arrived from England with the same missionaryintentions-to spread Christianity in North America. Eventually Mission San Lorenzo Arcangelico (founded in 1793) grew into one of the largest missions in California with over 1,000 missionaries stationed here for years; however its closure in 1834 due to financial problems led many people to believe that it was unsuccessful because no converts had arisen from among its subjects since its opening twenty years earlier! In 1846 Mexico acquired California include part of what is today Ventura County as well as all or parts of Tulare County and Kern County; this caused great excitement throughout much of southern California because it signaled increased American influence over Mexican affairs which would culminate during Manifest Destiny when pro-American Mexicans began organizing themselves into political parties opposed to Mexican rule while some Americans formed their own anti-Mexican militias known as Californios against what they saw as an encroachment by Mexico on their independence oath taken when they become U.S citizens San Clemente experienced a rapid population growth due to cheap land grants issued during Mexican rule leading to development along Point sur Boulevard between 1850 and 1870 particularly along Ortega Street which became known as “the Promenade” giving rise to both commercial enterprises such as grocery stores and bars/restaurants followed by high-end homes including mansions built for wealthy Californios called “rosary Row” . By 1880 less than 10%of residents lived within walking distance of their places of work while most residents commuted daily using buses or trains running through downtown Los Angeles making transportation affordable for many Angelenos . This growing transportation infrastructure allowed large businesses such as grocers General Mercado & Company, Leland Stanford Junior’sransportation companyStanford Navigation Companyand others along Paseo de los Emeteros (now Grant Avenue) southward into Pasadena where they opened new stores competitionally squeezing out smaller merchants until by 1910 only five stores remained operating west of Montrose Boulevard
The first European to see San Clemente was Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo in 1542. The mission was founded by Fray Antonio de San Miguel on November 6, 1769. The town of San Clemente soon became an important center for trade and colonization due to its location on the Strait of California. In 1821, the Mexican government granted land to the Franciscan friars for a new church and convent, which eventually led to the growth of San Clemente. With more than 1,500 residents in 1830,San Clemente became a city under Mexican rule in 1846. After years of struggle against Spanish tyranny, American forces invaded Mexico in 1898 and took over San Diego County; as a result, San Clemente reverted back to Mexican rule until 1910 when it became part of the United States after World War I. In 1924, following passage of the White Sands Missile Range Act by President Calvin Coolidge, development began on what would become known as Point Loma Naval Air Station (later NAS point Loma). The air station was built on eight small islands adjacent to Point Loma Island; it would house three squadrons of naval aviation during World War II while also providing access to harbor facilities for landing planes and warships. As part of post-war redevelopment efforts, portions of Point Loma were annexed into SAN CLEMENTE COUNTY in 1960 while others were annexed into PALOS VERDES COUNTY in 1972.
