This establishment continued to serve as a popular spot for breakfast and lunch until 1907 when it burned down. In 1881, Francisco Gomez opened his successful Gomez Coffee Company on Main Street in San Clemente. Gomez began producing high-quality beans here at his business and soon became well-known throughout Southern California. His store remains an important landmark today and continues to be a source of contemporary flavor profile for locals and tourists alike. In 1915, Donoso Bros., owners of Donoso’s Pizza Place,, opened one of the first pizza places in America outside of Italy with their distinctiveSan Clemente sauce (a blend of tomato sauce, olive oil, garlic powder, salt, pepper). After several years closed due to lack of business or competition from other pizzerias within town limits (and even outlying rural areas), Donoso reopened his restaurant under new management in 1936 withDonoso’s Own Coffee Corporation (DOC) head Peter Serafini as its president/CEO; donning green gloves while cooking everything from doughnuts all the way up through iced espresso drinks (!). With over thirty years experience under its belt—including time spent traveling across America serving up some seriously delicious pizza—Donoso’s Pizza Place soon became one of Northern Californian cuisine’s most iconic landmarks (if not its namesake city itself!). And we can only imagine what would have happened if they hadn’t sold out entirely…

Santiago, California is a small town located on the southwestern coast of San Diego County, about 8 miles (13 km) south of downtown San Diego. The population was 7,383 as of 2010. The townsite was given its name by Spanish explorer and missionary Father Junípero Serra in 1821. The first European to sight the area now known as Santiago was Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo in 1542 while sailing for Spain along the Pacific Coast. In 1821, Father Junipero Serra founded a mission at what is now known as Mission Santa Clara de la Concepción. During Mexican rule, San Clemente's boundaries changed several times with various missions moving into and out of the town over time. In 1906, Santiago was annexed by the City of San Diego; however, it remained an unincorporated community until it became part of the new city limits following Proposition 14 in 1978. The population reached 10,000 during World War II when many residents left for military service in Nazi Germany and Japan. Afterward there were only a few scattered family pickups here and there until development began in earnest around 1950 with some large-scale housing projects being built near Interstate 5 between Eastlake and La Jolla Avenues. Today most people are employed within commuting distance from their homes or work areas; but due to its isolated location it retains a strong historical identity which can be seen manifested throughout its streetsplots that are named after important figures from early Spanish history such as Don Simón Bolívar and Padre José María Arcángeles Martinez. One example is "Páscoa" which honors José Pascual Cámpora who served as president of Mexico City under Emperor Maximilian I before becoming Bishop of Chiapas in 1828-30.

In 1801, San Clemente became a town when it was incorporated as a village from parts of Encinitas and Menifee . In 1885, the Santa Barbara & Orange Railroad extended its line from San Clemente east to Yorba Linda and then north to Irvine . This made it possible for people living near Laguna Beach and Newport Beach to come downriver every day for employment on various jobs with local businesses such as canneries, land developers, sugar refineries and hotels. When World War II began in 1939, many American soldiers who had served in Europe returned home via sea and found themselves needed onsanctuaries like El Cajon where they could rest and recuperate before returning home again. So much so that much of what we now call “ downtown” used to be unoccupied property along Ventura Boulevard just west of I-5 which remained undeveloped until 1971 when plans were formed by Mayor James Kapp (head of redevelopment for city)and developer Donny Bernstein (a senior executive with Pacific Gas & Electric Co.)to turn this area into an urban renewal project called “South Park” which would have included high-rise apartments , office buildings , shopping malls , parks etc.? The first European to visit San Clemente was the Portuguese captain Pedro Pinto in 1542. The Spanish Conquistador Diego de Monterey visited the island in 1769 and claimed it for Spain. In 1821, Mexico acquired San Clemente from Spain, and in 1824, the United States acquired it from Mexico. The island became a U.S. territory on September 12, 1912. On November 16, 1915, President Woodrow Wilson signed into law the Insular Act of 1915 which gave San Clemente to the United States as part of Guam and Marianas.
