San Dimas, California is a city in the county of San Bernardino and the most populous city in Southern California. The population was 147,512 as of the 2010 census[1]. It is located on the eastern edge of Los Angeles County and is bordered by Anaheim to its south, Pasadena to its east, Orange to its north, and Diamond Ranch to its west. The name "San Dimas" comes from Spanish meaning "little wooded valley".[2] The first settlers in what is now San Dimas were Anglo-Americans who arrived around 1851. They had come from East Texas. In 1914, when san Bernardino County was established and West Hills became part of it, San Dimas annexed portions of adjacent Riverside County. At that time it was one of the largest cities in Southern California. By 1990 it had shrunk to its current size due largely to suburban growth outside the city limits. However, recent gentrification has led to renewed interest in downtownsan Dimas; with restaurants such as Ben’s Chili Bowl opening up shop inside historic buildings dating back to 19th century Pioneer days while new bars and nightclubs dot the area near First Street exits (just east of Interstate 5). One reason for this resurgence may be that downtownsan Dimas features many cultural attractions - including three large theaters - as well as some interesting neighborhoods: North Park (bounded by La Brea Avenue on the north side and Echo Park Boulevard on the south), Midtown ( bounded by Central Avenue on one side and Van Ness Avenue on another), and South Park ( bounded by Olympic Boulevard on one side and Lankershim Boulevard on another). The city of San Dimas, California is located in the eastern part of San Diego County. The population was estimated to be over 100,000 people as of the 2010 census. The town began as a small farming community in 1881 and grew rapidly during the late 1800s. In 1925, San Dimas joined the City of San Diego and became one of its original communities. Today, San Dimas is a thriving community with a rich history that has been celebrated by many residents and visitors alike. In 1881, Mexican immigrants established the small farming community of San Dimas on Rancho Santa Fe east of present-day downtown SanDimas. The area was considered inhospitable and difficult to farm because it was covered in thick scrub oak forest and had only two ways to get water supplies: through underground springs or downriver from Clear Valley Lake. However, despite these challenges, the settlers quickly realized that they could make a successful living growing crops and raising livestock in this region. By 1925, however, many of the original pioneers had died or moved away due to hard times and disease brought about by Mexico’sancestral war with American forces (1846-48). At first glance,San Dimas may not appear very different from other western towns during this time period – until you take a closer look at some key facts about its development! For example, while other towns were built around irrigation systems for agriculture (such as Fillmore Heights), water usage for sanitary purposes wasn’t often taken into account when planning out townships/villages back then. This made for an uncomfortable environment for residents who lived near reservoirs where typhoid fever cases were common; however, after years of research by local officials it was decided that such infrastructure would be unnecessary in order to maintain public health concerns without introducing new risks (Farrell & Larkin 5). Furthermore – most importantly – there was no need for roads or other public amenities when small villages such as these developed naturally over time based on trade relationships between their respective villages/townships/cities and larger ones like Los Angeles or Sacramento. This type of natural development allowed smaller settlements within individual villages/townships to grow up slowly while still intermingling with each other - something which we may not experience today becauseOf course - things changed dramatically after World War II when necessity called for more infrastructure than what existed before (Brown 4).
In 1847, the first post office in San Dimas was established. In 1865, a school was built on the current site of San Dimas High School. The school became a high school in 1926 and then an all-boys college in 1961.
