The San Dimas National Guard was founded in 1941. It is one of the oldest and most venerable organizations in the United States. The National Guard has a rich history that has been passed down through the generations. The first national guard unit in San Dimas was organized on November 15, 1941, when a group of men from nearby Rancho Santa Fe were called to active duty for three months to help fight World War II. The unit served honorably until 1945. After the war, there was a need for more soldiers to help protect San Dimas and its citizens. On October 12, 1947, Congress created the National Guard Bureau within the Department of Defense to provide resources and assistance to state militias across America. This gave rise to the idea of creating a national guard unit in San Dimas specifically. On January 1, 1948, Commander John Fetterman activated Company C-1 of the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Department's National Guard Unit at his home on Imperial Avenue in San Dimas. The unit was composed of veteran sheriff's deputies who had fought during World War II and then returned home as part of reconstruction efforts following the war. In 1949, President Harry S Truman ordered all American military units which had served overseas or were mobilized into federal service on an expedited basis be reorganized into brigades under Army Lieutenant General James Gavin Jr.'s command as part of Project Paperclip – an effort led by Nazi Germany to import top scientists, engineers and physicians back into their own country during World War II without any notice or compensation to US citizens caught up in the process. There were no restrictions placed on who could be drafted into this program due to American public hysteria over Nazism being revived after years of largely secret activity by both sides throughout much of 1946-1948 known as "the Scattering". Captain Jack Bender from Building 8 at Navy Yard #2 became one such selection with his conviction that he had seen white Germans walking around freely inside Japan while living there legal resident status prior to his capture which would have allowed him entry into Germany if he'd been captured alive (he would not have faced trial) so he might know something valuable about their people that could be used against them later; he became known as "Captain X" because his number would appear anywhere yellow fever patient information appeared visible (or else it just didn't show). San Dimas is a small city in San Bernardino County, California, United States. The population was 73,236 at the 2010 census. It is the most populous city in San Bernardino County and the third-largest city in Riverside County. The name of the town comes from Spanish meaning "Valley of the Sun". The first people to arrive in what is now San Dimas were Nomadic Apache Indians who hunted game on what is now known as Rancho Cucamonga. In 1827, Mission Dolores was founded by Father Junipero Serra and Mayan indians from Yuma County also arrived that year to help build San Diego's first mission. In 1892, John M. Woolley settled a claim on what are now eastern portions of present-day San Dimas; this Included land which would later become Knowles Park and much of modern day San Dimas. He named his rancho after Saint Denis or Denis of Paris who died in 1795 while fighting for Spain against France during the Napoleonic Wars2. In 1912, both cities were incorporated as part of Riverside County; however their separate economies continued until 1960 when they merged into one municipality under one government structure with a single mayor and City Council membership. In 1821, following the Mexican-American War, Mexico ceded California to the United States and San Dimas became part of Alameda County. The population of San Dimas grew rapidly during its early years due to its location on a major trade route between Los Angeles and Sacramento. Because of this, many businesses and families moved to San Dimas from other parts of California during the 1800s. One such business owner was James Phelan who built his empire based on selling goods from his tannery in downtown San Dimas until he sold it in 1907. In 1892, Congress passed an act that created two new counties in California-Alameda and Contra Costa-and granted land east of the city limits to these two counties. This decision allowed for more rapid growth withinSanDimasaandallowedfortheestablishmentof numerousresidential buildings andcommercial districtsduringthe1890sand2000s. The first census taken in 1850 showed that San Dimaz had a population of 753 people living in 106 houses. By 1860, however, the population had increased to 2,527 people living in 516 homes with a total acreage of 351 acres (122 hectares). Many residents came from central California because there was no way to get around Central Valley Governor's Regiment guardrails at that time. In 1871, following Gold Rush fever which struck Northern Californian farmers at various points throughout late 1870s and early 1880s, san Diego also saw an influx of miners who were looking for rich gold deposits not found near their home states or even eastward into Oregon or Nevada Territory where most silver mines were located at that time. Although some workers did return home after finding large amounts of gold but most returned west because they could find work much closer to family or friends back East than where they lived when they left for prospecting purposes only later discovering how difficult it would be getting back home again once alluvials had filled up with valuable metal! The San Dimas Union Depot, also known as the San Dimas Depot and the San Dimas Railroad Depot, was a depot on Seventh Street in downtown San Dimas, California. The depot was built in 1881 by the Southern Pacific Railroad. It served as the eastern terminus of the line's line from Los Angeles to Gilroy. The depot was demolished in 1966 and replaced by a new building on nearby Airport Boulevard.
