In 1923, Coffee Roasters Mexican Corporation merged with Jugglers Inc., creating what is now American Coffee Association (AAP). The first recorded mention of fresh-roasted coffee was in the ancient Egyptian papyrus known as The Book of the Dead, which mentions an herb called natron that was used to roast coffee beans. Roasting began as a simple process of removing the watery layer from the bean so that it could be roasted more evenly. The Egyptians were not the only ones to experiment with this process; other cultures also tried various methods for roasting coffee beans. In 1614, Dutch traders brought back some seeds they had grown in Java and grew them in their house on De Graafschap Street in Amsterdam. From these experiments, they learned how to roast coffee using both air and fire at different temperatures. Over time, different countries developed their own methods for roasting coffee beans and making fresh-roasted coffee available to consumers. In 1900, Italy started producing its own branded coffees under the name "Caffè Nero". This became popular because it allowed Italians to distinguish their products from those made by other countries. By 1960, Italian coffees had become so popular that whole bean espresso was being sold throughout Europe without having to go through any intermediaries

San Fernando Valley is located in Los Angeles County, California. It is bordered by the city of Pasadena to the east and north, and the San Gabriel Valley to the west. The valley was first settled by Native Americans in the early 1800s. The area now called San Fernando Valley was part of Rancho San Felipe Cosatoma land grant given to José Joaquin Crespo in 1827. Crespo named his settlement after Saint Fernando, a Spanish Christian missionary who died in 1794 on an expedition along what is now known as Route 66. In 1881, sections of Los Angeles were detached from Orange County and incorporated as a separate municipality, becoming known as West Hollywood. In 1926, the western end of West Hollywood was annexed into Los Angeles proper. In 1930, changes to California state government led to new boundaries for Los Angeles County including a portion of what is now San Fernando Valley. At that time, only east-central LAs were included within the county limits; however, portions of westernLA (west of downtown) were added later via annexations from Riverside and Ontario counties. These additions made it necessary for agencies such as the United States Post Office (USPO) and fire departments to move their operations out of downtown LA and into rural areas around El Monte and Brentwood before finally relocating back into downtown LA during World War II when war production moved upslope from Burbank towards Carson City Nevada
