The history of marine gift in San Fernando, California goes back to the 1800s. In 1881, a man by the name of P.J. Hennessey established a business called The Marine Warehouse on Saticoy Street. At that time, San Fernando was one of the most populated areas in Los Angeles County and there was a lot of demand for goods and services from sailors and fishermen. Hennessey offered his customers access to his store's ever-growing inventory of board games, phonographs, telescopes, and other maritime items. Over time, The Marine Warehouse became synonymous with quality seafood products and services during the early years of San Fernando's development as a tourist town.
The City of San Fernando, California was incorporated on November 3, 1853. The site for the city was a part of Rancho San Fernando de la Frontera grant given to José Antonio Corral by Governor Manuel Nieto. On December 2, 1854, the first post office in what is now San Fernando opened. In 1865, the first store in the city was built. On October 29, 1870, San Fernando became an independent municipality and on February 12, 1888 it granted full autonomy to the City of Los Angeles. In 1951-1952 three amendments were made to the charter of the City which provided for service by water taxi buses from downtown to various parts of town as well as overnight parking permits at local business districts; these were repealed when Measure R passed on June 6th and amended again on November 7th providing for a single meter system with no discounts or special rates for meters installed in commercial areas only. In 1973-1974 a master plan was prepared that proposed demolition and reconstruction of much of centralSanFernando including most if not all high schools (St. John’s had been closed.) However this proposal never got off the ground due to strong opposition from many residents who felt their neighborhoods would be ripped down while new homes would be constructed in their places. A referendum was held in November 1974 and results showed that over 50% of voters opposed any demolition/reconstruction plans while only 8% supported them. The referendum failed but paved way for development proposals to continue despite community opposition

The San Fernando Valley is located in the Inland Empire of southern California. The valley was first inhabited by the Tongva people, who wereVillagers of Mission San Gabriel Arcangelus. The area was part of a Mexican land grant to Antonio Topo, called Rancho del Rio Bonito. When Californios gained control over the region in 1848, they made it part of their new state of California. The valleys early economy was based on agriculture and ranching. In 1871, five years after statehood, an electric railroad line was built through the valley and goods started flowing into and out of San Fernando Valley for the first time. By 1925, with advances in transportation and industry, Los Angeles had become one of the world’s leading cities and the San Fernando Valley became a bedroom community for Hollywood stars and other high-priced residents. However, as industrial growth increased pollution from manufacturing plants and chemical operations along with rapid population growth transformed what had been once agricultural areas into densely populated neighborhoods characterized by high poverty rates and social inequality. In 1992 Measure Z became law establishing GarcíaJiménez Park in honor of then County Executive Tom Bradley who championed revitalization efforts throughout much of central Southern California during his eight years as county executive (1991-1995). Today García Jiménez Park still represents another important milestone in this history - it is now one of six urban park districts in Los Angeles County
