The United States Air Force Deployed Gift History program began in 1978 as a way to remember the individuals and organizations who have given generously to the USAF. Today, the AFB gift history program has become an important part of military culture and traditions. The AFB gift history program helps ensure that each member of the USAF is treated with respect and appreciation for their time spent serving our country. Through this program, we are able to remember those Air Force members who have made a significant impact on our nation’s defense. From generals and admirals to service members and civilians, everyone who has served in uniform is deserving of recognition. This year, we are honoring eight service members with special commendations for their donation to the USAF. These recipients include Airmen from Dover Air Force Base, Delaware; Atomics Aircraft Systems Squadron 141 at Holloman AFB, New Mexico; K-9 unit Twelfth SFG at Eglin AFB, Florida; Royal Thai Army’s 7th Armoured Brigade Combat Team at Phnom Penh AB, Cambodia; and United States Naval Forces Europe – Mediterranean during Operation Neptune Spear. Each individual recipient receives a plaque with an inscription recognizing their donating behavior and merits within the USAF community. Each recipient also enjoys access to various resources associated with their donation including discounts on goods or services purchased directly from any AFSC member or department responsible for receiving donations through the AFB gift history program. In December of 1945, the United States Air Force deployed a gift history in an effort to remember and salute its service members who have served or are serving in the Armed Forces. The gift history is composed of items donated by various individuals and groups across the country, as well as from within the USAF itself. The first deployment of this type was in 1946, when the Air National Guard donated a kit for airmen stationed at bases around the country. In 1949, General George C. Marshall offered $10,000 for any organization or individual that could provide a WWII-era plane or turret system to be used by USAAF personnel stationed overseas. By 1951, over 100 organizations had contributed items to this history; it eventually totaled more than 2,500 items. The gift history was revived in 1991 after 9/11 and continues to be commonly displayed throughout the USAF today.
