There is no doubt that the San Francisco Army and Navy Museum has a rich military history dating back to 1849. The museum’s collection of artifacts includes items from both the California and Mexican Wars, as well as the First World War. In addition to exhibits on weaponry and military uniforms, the museum also offers an interesting program called “The American Expeditionary Forces in San Francisco, 1846-1847.” This program provides an overview of events that took place during the years between 1846 and 1847 in San Francisco. One of the most significant contributions made by the United States Army in San Francisco was their establishment of Fort Point at Portsmouth Point in 1849.
