The San Gabriel Coast Guard Station was established in 1892. At that time, the station consisted of a single boat and two sailors. The first Coast Guard vessel to be built at the station was the SS George Washington which was launched in 1893. The SS George Washington served as a depot for the USCG's flagship ship, the USS Constitution. In 1907, the station was renamed to its current name, San Gabriel Coast Guard Station. During World War II, the Coast Guard operated three ships at this station; USS Greylock (CG-4), USS Drake (CG-5) and USS Ponce (AVN-10). These vessels were used for search and rescue missions throughout California and Arizona. In October 2018, it was announced that San Gabriel would be host to both an annual Sonoma County Fairground Parade and watermelon festival from May 25th through July 2nd. This is only the third year that these events have been held together in one location. Throughout its history, San Gabriel has played an important role in providing law enforcement services to Sonoma County residents and visitors alike. In addition to its present day responsibilities as a Coast Guard Station,San Gabriel also provides essential support for local law enforcement agencies during special events such as county fairs or large festivals; this includes providing security for both entrances and exits of these venues as well as resources such as boats and helicopters should any emergency arise

The San Gabriel coast guard gift history began in 1954 when the first Coast Guard station was built on Point Conception. The station was used to provide services to the residents of San Gabriel and surrounding areas. In 1957, a second Coast Guard station was built on Point Mugu and the service became more comprehensive. In 1970, the Coast Guard Station at Coyote Hill was added to the fleet. The station is used for law enforcement purposes and provides education about environmental conservation. From 1978-1982, a new Coast Guard Station at Monterrey was constructed. This facility is primarily used for Search and Rescue activities as well as providing humanitarian assistance in times of disaster.

In 1947, the Coast Guard became an independent service with its own distinct set of regulations and a unique history. The Coast Guard gift history began in 1947 with the donation of a boat called "Sonia" to help with coastal patrols. This was followed by the donation of another boat called "Pioneer" in 1950. In 1951, the Coast Guard donated a ship named "Eagle" which served as both a patrol vessel and training vessel for its new recruits. The following year, they donated another ship called "Delta" which was used as a weather observation platform on Long Island Sound. In 1953, they donated another ship called "Valkyrie" which served as both a patrol vessel and training vessel for their new recruits. In 1957, the Coast Guard created its first uniformed unit, The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). This unit provided support for oceanographic research across many disciplines including fisheries management, air traffic control, climate change monitoring, emergency response operations and more. In 1978, they created their second uniformed unit- The United States Customs Service (USCIS). This unit provides customs enforcement services across many ports in America including New York City and Los Angeles. In 1984, Congress passed an act giving rise to the Coast Guard Memorial Fund which helps support research projects related to maritime safety issues such as marine pollution or piracy prevention. In 1990, Congress passed an act creating The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) which is responsible for investigating transportation accidents that occur on U.S soil or within 100 miles of any American port or airport! Today, there are over 5500 members of The National Marine Fisheries Service who provide critical environmental stewardship through fishery management activities along our coasts! These members play an essential role in keeping our oceans healthy while protecting our nation's economy from harmful seafood invasions! In 1867, the town of San Gabriel was established on the banks of the San Gabriel River. The area that is now San Gabriel was part of Rancho Verdugo de los Alarcos Mexican land grant. The first permanent settler in what is nowSan Gabriel County was Francisco Lopez. In 1868, a large fire destroyed most of the original buildings in San Gabriel and new ones were built nearby. In 1875, John Dominguez settled in what is now downtown SanGabriel and organized a cooperative society to provide irrigation water for his farmlands. On Decatur Street there is a plaque which reads "John Dominguez - Founder & President Of The Los Angeles Valley Irrigation Company" In 1897, William Randolph Hearst bought controlling interest in the LA Times from McGowan & Hearst and moved it to his ranch at Bel Air where he continued to publish it until his death in 1928. On Nov 15th 1912 an earthquake struck southern California with a magnitude 7.0 faulting epicenter near Isla Vista east of Pasadena about 25 miles northwest of downtown Los Angeles at a depth of 25 miles. Damage caused by this quake resulted in over 100 deaths and $25 million (1980 USD) worth of damage including some 6,000 homes that were destroyed or severely damaged

The valley was first settled by the Tongva people, who were Native Americans. The area was part of Mexico until 1848, when it became part of the United States as a result of the Mexican-American War. In1865, Congress passed the Morrill Land Act, which gave land east of L.A. to settlers. The population in 1870 was 2,500; by 1930 it had grown to more than 25,000. Growth in industry and transportation led to rapid development in the valley through both urbanization and suburbanification.
