Maga coffee is a type of Arabica coffee that originated in the San Gabriel Valley of California. The beans are roasted and ground at the Maga Coffee Company, which was founded in 1928. The company is located on Monterey Avenue in the town of North Hollywood. The first time maga coffee was mentioned was in 1912 when it was noted that some buyers of this coffee were purchasing it from Arabs who had moved from Baghdad to California. In 1926, Gertrude Ellington, owner of a grocery store in North Hollywood, began selling maga coffee under the name Johnnie's Coffee. She started buying bulk quantities from a man named Joe Hauser and selling them through her store. By 1933, maga coffee had become so popular that Hauser decided to open his own business called Joe's Coffee & Tea Company in nearby Canoga Park. But there was one small problem; no one knew how to roast and grind maga beans properly. So, Gertrude continued sourcing her beans from Joe's Coffee& Tea Company while also starting her own roasting business called Golden Earrings Roasters Ltd.. Eventually, both businesses merged into one and continue as separate entities today (although they still sell their products together). In 1937, Arturo Garcia opened up his own roasting business called Garcia’s Cafeteria which became very successful because he roasted only for himself and didn’t sell any of his beans to other businesses or individuals. This allowed him to develop great relationships with his customers which ultimately allowed Garcia’s Cafeteria to be known as “the best café south of Sunset Boulevard” according to Time magazine in 1951 This relationship led Garcia’s Cafeteria to purchase two acres near Universal Studios where they built their first building – now known as the Maga Coffee Company Building – in 1957 Eventually, other co-ownership ensued until current owners bought out Arturo Garcia’s share back in 2000 Today, you can find maga coffee all over Southern California including North Hollywood where Maga Coffee Co.(North Hollywood) remains responsible for roasting all their beans fresh daily and shipping them directly acrossstate lines direct…all without leaving their beautiful home state of California!
