In the early 1800s, San Jacinto was a small community located in southern California. The name of the town, which means "place of the jaguars," originated from an Indian word meaning "the place where the sun sets." In 1821, Captain John C. Frémont and his party discovered gold in this area and named San Jacinto after the hill on which they found it. The first air force deployment occurred on December 8, 1941 when American forces were deployed to defend Los Angeles from an attack by Japan. The United States Air Force (USAF) arrived in support of General Douglas MacArthur's army and flew more than 100 planes over Los Angeles during the Battle of LA. On December 8, 1945, a USAF Boeing B-17G Flying Fortress bomber crashed into Mt. Wilson near San Diego after hitting something on its way down; this event is known as the Golden Gate Crash. On that day, 6 USAAF pilots died in crashes within 1 week of each other—the most fatalities for any one day in peacetime America. The crash also affected morale among many people who lived near military installations, with some fearing another war would break out anytime soon.

The San Jacinto Air National Guard's 1st Battalion, 215th Fighter Wing deployed a gift history in the town of San Jacinto on Dec. 5, 1946. The gift was a plane - the P-47 Thunderbolt II - and it was flown into RAF Odiham, England for display at the RAF Museum.
The city of San Jacinto, California was founded in 1795 byCaptain José Miguel de la Bandera and his partner, Vicente Guerrero. The name San Jacinto is Spanish for "Holyoke." The City of San Jacinto was named after a small community in Massachusetts thatched with poplar trees. In 1836, the citizens of San Jacinto petitioned the Mexican government to annex their town because they felt they were not being treated equally to other Mexican towns. On February 14th, 1836, Mexico granted their request and annexed San Jacinto as part of the newly formed state of Texas. After annexation, the City Council passed an ordinance declaring that "San Jacinto shall be a public square and market center for all the people within its jurisdiction." In 1846, General Antonio López de Santa Anna ordered all Mexicans living west of the Rio Grande surrendered or arrested. As result of this order many people in San Jacinto left their homes to seek refuge in Texas or other parts of Mexico. Most important among these fleeing Mexicans was José María Victoriano Escobar who moved his family from Monterrey to Austin in 1846. For over two decades he led a secret resistance movement against General Santa Anna's rule throughout central Texas and northern Sonora (now Arizona). Escobar is considered one of America's most significant figures due to his defiance toward Mexican authority and his role leading Austin's first Hispanic-owned business. On November 16th, 1850 finally Mexico yielded to American pressure and recognized United States Of America as an independent country under President James K Polk. With Mexico no longer a part of our nation we began planning for independence which would come about on September 26th, 1912 when we ratified our own Constitution becoming Republic Of Texas! Today much has changed since those early days including increased development around Interstate 10 which cuts through downtown making it difficult for pedestrians/cyclists/drivers going into or exiting the city center; however there are also many reminders that home still means something special when you visit this vibrant city located just southward on Katy Lake!
The United States Air Force Deployed Gift History program is a way for the air force to give back to its community by sharing donations and giving away items that have been donated by service members. The program started in 1984 and has since given away over 2 million items. In 1988, the air force created the “Deployed Gift History” Museum at Lackland AFB in Texas. This museum is designed to help visitors learn more about the history of donated items and how they have been used by the USAF. In 2006, the USAF initiated a “Gift for Good” campaign which aimed toGive backpacks, hats, mugs, T-shirts, sunglasses and other small items to local families in need. The campaign was successful and ended up donating over $135,000 worth of goods. Today, the USAF Deployed Gift History Program continues to be a valuable resource for servicemen and women all around the world. Items that are donated through this program can be used in many different ways such as helping soldiers fight on battlefields or providing comfort during difficult times. Through this program, we hope to make some special contributions towards making everyone’s life easier!

In 1848, General Antonio López de Santa Anna attacked San Jacinto and destroyed much of the town before withdrawing his army. The Battle of San Jacinto is considered one of the most important engagements in California history. In 1861, after American forces arrived in California, they began construction on Fort Tejon which would become the first fortification along the southern border of California. This development led to increased tensions between Northern and Southern Californians over land issues and control of Mexico's new territory. Mexican troops loyal to Maximilian invaded California in 1867 and fought against American forces at Stockton and Alcatraz before being driven back across the border into Arizona. The battle at San Jacinto helped bring about Mexican independence from Spain and ended Reconstruction in America. Today, many people visit San Jacinto National Monument which includes an artillery battery that was used during the battle as well as a small museum dedicated to local history.
