In 1821, the Mexican state of San Jacinto became part of the United States. The following year, Major General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna was elected governor and ordered the deportation of all Mexicans living in the state. On December 6, 1821, a group of Americans led by Captain Jameson decided to buy land in San Jacinto for $5 per acre. On January 7, 1822, they organized a company called Rancho Los Catres and named their captain John Folsom. The American military installed an adobe fort on top of Black Mountain and began to clearland around it in order to build roads and settlements. They also started trading with local Native Americans. On January 25, 1824, Californian Governor Manuel Micheltorena formed a commission to deal with the issue of Mexican-American presence in California. The commission found that there were no obstacles between Mexicans and Americans living apart from each other but that there were certain areas where people were selling land without any title or right to do so. It recommended that all Mexicans living east of Avenue M be deported immediately while those west of Avenue M be allowed to stay as long as they paid rent and agreed not to take up any more land than necessary. The commissioners also recommended that Indian tribes be consulted about this matter before anything happened because they knew better than anyone what was best for them.
San Jacinto is a small city in Riverside County, California, United States. The population was 37,392 at the 2010 census. It is the namesake of the San Jacinto Mountains and the 1778 battle between Spanish and Mexican forces that led to independence from Spain. The city was founded in 1874 by developers who named it after General Antonio de la Rúa y Costilla y San Jacinto, who fought against Mexico on October 16, 1775 during the Mexican-American War. The City of San Jacinto has been mentioned in American history as early as 1785 when it was part of Alta California under Lieutenant Governor Pedro Fages. In 1876, Los Angeles annexed San Jacinto; however, its incorporation into Los Angeles did not take place until 1912. In 1907, following a referendum by residents of both cities endorsing annexation by Los Angeles County for economic reasons rather than remaining separate municipalities (the citizens of San Jacinto had voted overwhelmingly in favor of annexation), both cities became one municipality with their own mayor and council members. On December 15, 1909–11 due to drought conditions caused by overcast skies throughout Southern California–the first firefighters from both cities arriving together responded to what turned out to be an accidental gas leak from a nearby oil well (it would later be determined that arson was responsible). This event helped grow community spirit among firefighters and helped make cooperation between their departments more common. The incorporation of Riverside County into California resulted in much change for San Jacinto; although it retained its municipal form with its own mayor and council members through most of the 20th century they were gradually replaced by county officials until finally being discontinued completely in 2000 when all but 1 percent of the workforce within town limits were absorbed into our county’s larger workforce. Today there are only a few scattered businesses left within town boundaries while most residents live outside its boundaries either inside or adjacent agencies such as LAX Airport or downtown Los Angeles proper where there are no services available except limited public transportation connections

The San Jacinto Rancho was originally given to José de la Cruz by the Mexican government in 1821. It was part of the larger rancho system, which gave land to its holders in return for services rendered. The rancho system was abolished in 1848 when Mexico became a province of California. The original owners of the San Jacinto Rancho were Juan Bautista Alvarado and his brother Pío Pico y Vargas. Juan Bautista Alvarado died in 1827 and his brother Pío Pico y Vargas did not live to see the sale of their share in the rancho to Captain Benjamin Bonneville. Captain Bonneville had been sent by the Mexican government to take possession of what remained of California after it had been seized by American forces at conquest in 1846. Captain Bonneville sold off most of the remaining Spanish possessions east of El Paso, including San Jacinto Rancho, on July 15,1847. The land included about 520 acres (200 hectares) between Lomas de las Palmas and Mission Peak. Most likely because he wanted no part of an area that had become so Anglo-dominated, Captain Bonneville named himself "Governor"Bonnelly on September 16th,1847 when he took possession from Colonel James Fenton. It is interesting to note that although much has changed since then (and especially since World War II), much aboutSan Jacinto still remains true today: its location within Riverside County; its large acreage; and its history as one of America's largest Hispanic settlements during both stages of its growth - as a Native American mission town dating back over 600 years; as a place where many famous people have lived or worked; and finally as a popular tourist destination for those seeking beautiful old missions with rich culture and history all around them!
