San Jacinto is a town in the Mexican state of Baja California and the capital of the prefecture of San Jacinto. It is bordered by Tijuana to the north, Acapulco to the east, and Puebla to the south. The population was 824 as of 2010. The coffee industry in San Jacinto dates back to 1847 when Pedro de la Garza started marketing coffee beans from his farmstead on Culebra Road near present-day Floresville. In 1850, Félix Fernández established a mill in what is now downtown San Jacinto and began exporting coffee beans to Europe. In 1861 Juan José Ortiz founded a second mill in town which became one of Mexico's leading coffee producers until it was destroyed by fire in 1928. In 1865 Antonio Gomez founded another mill which became one of Mexico's leading coffee producers until it was destroyed by fire in 1928. By 1887 Benito Juárez had opened up an agricultural cooperative that exported beans for about $1 per sack from his Gonzalo Díaz rancho (now part of Trabajadores Unidos Local 100) about 25 miles northeast of San Jacinto on Rio Hondo Creek. San Jacinto is a small town in Kern County, California. It was founded by Captain Anthony Gutierrez and his wife, Maria de la Concepcion, on October 12, 1846 as the tiny hamlet of San Jacinto. The name came from the Mission Santa Ana de San José (1784), which had been built in honor of Our Lady of La Union. The town experienced growth during the years following its founding. In 1852 it became the county seat of Kern County and soon developed into an agricultural center with numerous cotton plantations and several other businesses. In 1881, San Jacinto became part of the newly formed city of Los Angeles; however, it retained its own government until 1912 when it was annexed to Los Angeles proper. Today, San Jacinto retains a strong community spirit and proud history that has made it one of Southern California's most popular tourist destinations.

When the Spanish overran California in 1769, they found the land to be rich in gold and silver mines. The Mexicans who lived there were not welcomed and many of them died from disease or natural disasters. In 1821, Mexicanos who had left for Oregon Gold Rush started a new life in San Jacinto, California. They named their town after General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna, the governor of Mexico during the American Revolution. The town was first settled by Mexicans in 1825. It was then called Pueblo de San Jacinto because it was located near a small stream called San Jacinto Creek. In 1836, when Mexico became a republic, San Jacinto changed its name to Ciudad Juárez because that is where President José Joaquín Herrera granted amnesty to all Mexican nationals living in Texas and New Mexico. In 1860, when California became an independent country, San Jacinto changed its name again to Ciudad Victoria because it had been founded by Captain James Folsom on November 12 of that year as a trading post on the banks of the Sacramento River. After Californians gained their independence from Spain in 1853, they changed the name back to San Jacinto on December 6th of that year due to historical references which show that this place was once called "Jacinta." The old downtown area is still home to some businesses and services which date back to before 1850. Many original buildings still stand such as The Alamo Hotel (1862), The Masonic Temple (1867), and The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Plant (1914). There are also several churches including Our Lady Of Guadalupe Church (1900), St John’s Episcopal Cathedral (1897), and Christmastime Tree at Park Plaza Shopping Center (1978).
The Spanish settlement of San Jacinto was founded in 1769 by the Franciscan friar, Father Jose de Zafra. The area that is now San Jacinto County was part of Alta California under Mexican rule before the United States acquired it in 1848. In 1851, Congress approved a bill to name the county for General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna, who had led successful military campaigns against Mexico and independence movements throughout California. The county seat was moved from Monterey to San Antonio in 1857.
