The Marine Corps Deployed Gift History Program began in 1948 with the donation of a casket by Sgt. John Fenton to San Jacinto Memorial Chapel. This was only the second time that a Marines had given such a gift and it was soon after discovered that many marines were also giving back to their country with donations of items such as clothing, tools, medals and insignias. The program continued to grow during the years and by 1969 there were over 1,500 Marines who contributed items or money for special occasions including Remembrance Day and Veterans' Day. In 1977 the program reached its pinnacle when Lt.-Col. James Wickersham donated five white roses from his home in Lexington, Kentucky to commemorate the 200th anniversary of American independence. Since then there have been countless donations both large and small which have helped make San JacintoMemorial Chapel one of the most popular places in our Corps for special occasions!

The Marine Corps deployed a gift to the San Jacinto Valley in 1836. A company of marines traveled from Quantico, Virginia Territory, to garrison the Mexican border at Gila Bend. Captain John C. Fremont and his battalion of Marines disembarked at San Fernando de Velas on July 1, 1836 and began their march up the valley. The gift was a small cannon that had been sent by Commodore James K. Polk as a gesture of friendship between the United States and Mexico.
San Jacinto is a city in Bexar County, Texas, United States. The population was 5,471 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Bexar County. The name "San Jacinto" comes from the Spanish word for " Santiago." The first European settlement in what is now San Jacinto County was made by Father Antonio da Cowan and his Catholic missionaries on October 14, 1736, when they founded Mission San Felipe de Jesús west of present-dayoli Paso Robles. The establishment of Mission San Felipe de Jesús marked the beginning of an era of religious and racial diversity in this area as well as throughout much of Texas; many Mexicans came to Missions to learn English and become Christians while others joined forces with Anglo settlers in their fight against Mexico's Mexican Empire. In 1824, José Joaquín Herrera y Costilla built Rancho Viejo (New Ranch), which became one of the most important ranchos in TX history because it provided grazing land for cattle and other livestock until it was sold to Sam Houston in 1840. Over time various businesses were established along Railroad Road east of town including a smelter (1892), a hotel (1903), a post office (1907), an agricultural fairgrounds complex (1927), and several churches (St John's Episcopal Church 1915-1978). In 1907 San Jacinto started its own school system with Mrs Florence Jobe as headmistress followed by Mrs Eleanor Fenton from 1928 until her retirement in 1971. In 1988 San Jacinto Elementary School opened after years spent fundraising. On November 1st 1911 President William McKinley gave approval for annexation bytx into US so that Tx could have more representation at Washington D C during WWI due to financial problems caused byMexican Revolution & drought= annexation needed & desired By 1917 some progress had been made but war intervened again making annexation unsuccessful On December 12th 1920 Huey Long proposedhood amendment to house all citizens within 3 miles or less of any government building proposinghood failed 92% to 8%
The Marine Corps has been deployed to support many different causes throughout its history. One of the most famous and decorated Marines is Lance Corporal Johnnie Boyce, who was awarded the Medal of Honor for saving his unit's ammunition supply during World War II. San Jacinto is a small town located in the San Bernardino Mountains of Southern California. The name comes from the Spanish word "jacinto" meaning “sweet valley” and refers to the confluence of the Río San Joaquín and Río del Oro, which forms the border between present-day San Bernardino County and Riverside County. The name also has historical significance as it was birthplace of Mexican general José María de Vasquez y Ayala, who fought in both Mexico's War of Independence (1846-48) and World War II. The first permanent residents of what is now San Jacinto were Spaniards who arrived in 1769. By 1821, however, Mexican citizens had began arriving to ranch land east of Mount Wilson on which they built homes, churches, stores and other businesses. In 1839, two years after General Antonio López de Santa Anna's successful invasion of California during the Mexican-American War, gold was discovered near Chino Rancho Gordillo. Mining operations soon followed and by 1850 there were over 50 mines in operation around San Jacinto. In 1860, an act was passed by Congress establishing a Presidio at Monterey Bay for defense against Native American attacks; this presidio never materialized because no such attack occurred. The city of San Jacinto was founded in 1795 by Captain José Joaquín de Herrera as a rancho for Spanish settlers. The area now known as San Jacinto was part of Rancho Viejo, which was granted to José Antonio Alvás y Costilla in 1821. The city began to grow rapidly after the completion of the Callejon Pedro Menéndez and Don Felipe Páez Railroad in 1835. In 1848, San Jacinto became an independent county under the administration of Governor Manuel Micheltorena. In 1861, it became a state town when California become a republic. In 1876, San Jacinto joined the City of Austin as one of its original ten municipalities. In 1912, it incorporated as a city with a population of 100,000 people. In 1948, San Jacinto became an international airport after approval from the Federal Aviation Administration; it is currently the second-busiest airport in Texas and ninth-busiest airport in America. The airport has also been home to several major medical institutions such as Baylor University School of Medicine and Texas Children's Hospital. San Jacinto is located on Interstate 10 between Austin and Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport; I-10 also provides access to other regional airports such as Houston Intercontinental Airport and Corpus Christi Metropolitan Airport within driving distance
