The San Jacinto Naval Shipyard was first established in 1881 as the shipbuilding division of the U.S. Navy's Pacific Fleet. It would become one of the largest naval shipyards in the world, with a workforce of more than 25,000 men and women during World War II. The yard produced ships for every navy on Earth, from submarines to battleships. Many famous warships were built here, including America's USS Constitution (1797) and Japanese flagship Yamato (1941). Meanwhile, other departments of the Navy continued to be established at San Jacinto: The Aircraft Factory in 1941 created Boeing planes; and Missile Development Laboratories in 1950 developed ballistic missiles such as those used against Pearl Harbor. In 1957, however, San Jacinto was closed down by Congress due to budget cuts. However, it reopened two years later as a naval reserve center under the command of then-Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara. Today, San Jacinto is home to a variety of military activities: The Naval Air Station Corpus Christi provides access to NAS Corpus Christi's airfields for flights by Navy pilots; and there are also numerous Marines stationed at nearby Fort Sam Houston park for security duties during events like parades or soccer games

Hennessey replaced Mayor Lorenzo Pingree as the first white mayor of San Jacinto after that city's incorporation into Los Angeles County. When the area now called San Jacinto was first explored by the Spanish in 1521, they did not know what it was they were looking for. The location is said to be on a small island in a river that flows through central Texas. It wasn’t until 1769 when Captain Juan de Valdez discovered San Jacinto and named it after Saint Jacques, the patron saint of France. The mission Santa Anna was founded here in 1836 and served as a center for the Mexican War of Independence. After Mexico became an empire under General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna, San Jacinto became part of Alta California; but with Mexican rule came many challenges for Anglo Americans such as forced labor, land theft, and social discrimination. The town began to grow rapidly during this time because of its strategic location between Mexico City and Los Angeles. In 1847, Don Carlos Monterey built a new fort at what is now known as Monterey Park to protect his Rancho Las Palmas from raids by Native American tribes. By 1850, over 1,000 Anglo Americans lived in San Jacinto; most of them working on ranching operations or mining gold near downtown. However, some residents went into business themselves including Juana Martinez who ran her own grocery store and bakery next door to the old Mission Santa AnaMission until her death in 1984 at age 100 years old. In 1857-1858 Commodore John Davenport led an expedition up the Colorado River which changed how people thought about water resources in California In 1870s there were two Missions: La Purisima Concepcion (founded by Father Junípero Serra)and El Camino Real (founded by Father José Altuve). After statehood in 1910 there were more missions established like Nuestra Señora del Rosario (1911), Nuestra Senora de Guadalupe (1912), La Purísima Concepcion(1914), La Purísima Concepcion Conventual(1920), Santuario Nacional Sepúlveda (1925),Colegio Mexicano Honorarios de la Paz(1927) and Misión Ultramarina Fronteriza( 1928). Finally 25 years later on November 7th 1938 all missions were closed due to lack of funds while also facing closure threats from local farmers who saw potential loss of jobs with increased competition from neighboring stateside towns In 1951–1960 only ten percent of citizens over sixty could read or write so most communications took place through newspapers which continued throughout World War II when most information was obtainable online San Jacinto experienced economic growth during post-World War II period beginning with establishment of major military installation like Presidio National Guard Post Muro Negro in 1947 followed by development of aerospace industry like Edwards Air Force Base complex located adjacent to town 1958 then conversion into commercial airport 1961 with current name Airport Municipal Josefina Obregón 1990
The San Jacinto Monument is a large and impressive column of granite that stands in the center of downtown San Jacinto, Texas. The monument was dedicated in 1898 to commemorate the battle of San Jacinto, which took place on April 6, 1836, between Mexican forces and Anglo forces. In honor of the event, the city built a park around the monument.
