In 1846, two men from Mission San Jacinto started a small ranch in what is now San Jacinto County. The men named their land Rancho Santa Anna, after the Mexican revolutionary Armando Lopez de Santa Anna. In 1853, the United States took over Mexico and its government was changed to that of the United States. As a result, Mexican citizens were no longer allowed to own land within U.S. territory and so the ranchos became national lands. Today, San Jacinto is a census-designated place (CDP) in El Paso County, Texas, United States. The population as of 2010 was 26,711. It lies at an elevation of 486 feet (152 m). The town's ZIP code is 79922 which covers most of its area before it expands into rural areas eastward towards Hearst Castle National Monument beyond ZIP code 82334 The first Europeans to arrive in San Antonio Bay claimed Rancho Santa Anna for Spain on July 26th 1769 by Lieutenant Colonel Juan Jose de Escobar y Costilla alias la Torreblanca; however this claim was never ratified by the Spanish Government because they did not have title to such an area until December 3rd 1800 when General Vicente Guerrero granted them 1/4 square league under concession #8 on account of his victory over Bernardo O'Higgins at Puebla on October 16th 1796 during the Usumacinta campaign against Mexico City’s New Spain army led by Captain Ferdinando Castilla y Fuentes De la Cueva This concession included 5 miles along present day US 281 northward to Mission Concepción and then easterly 2 1/2 miles due southwesterly along today's US 281 corridor past Convent Road before turning due southwesterly again crossing Old US 281 about 9 miles southwest of downtown San Antonio This grant also included what is now parts of Caldwell and Medina counties as well as much of Alamo Heights including some sites where Fort Sam Houston stands today A second grant followed dated November 15th 1800 with an additional 1/4 square league near present day Goodall Lake located between Alamogordo Hills east and west of present day IH-10 just north of Alpine Lakeshore Boulevard northwest from FM 2409 This new concession had an additional 10 miles due southwesterly from Alamogordo Hills across Alamogordo Plains northeast through today's Anadarko or Springdale townships into East Alamo Creek Valley southeast to Clearwater Gulch northeast from trails leading east into Presidio hills northwest from modern White Sands Missile Range approximately midway between those ranges On March 6th 1836 José Joaquín Bernal de Urrea granted another piece of Grant No.#8 acreage including what are now part of Midland Park and Haltom City along mission road extending northerly 3 1/2 miles thence W 3\1/2 N latitude line It should be noted that this grant included both current Midland Park and Haltom City proper situated on opposite banks thereof between White Sands Arsenal &Albuquerque post office Rd &oldmission road extending SSW3WNW nearly 4 Miles running parallel w&ndows w&th original grantsrights but since Desert View Colony Lots were platted prior to 1830 there may be some overlap there too

In 1846, under the leadership of General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna, Mexico's last king and commander-in-chief of all its forces, San Jacinto was born as a tiny villages on what is now the border of Texas and California. From its earliest days, San Jacinto had been an Eidolon of Mexican patriotism. The town's founder, José Joaquín Cámpora y Valdez, purchased 640 acres (240 hectares) in present day Orange County for $5 per acre (2 hectares). Here he built a small but sturdy adobe ranch house that still stands today. With his two companions Manuel Micheltorena and Gaspar de la Sierra - both Californian veterans of the Mexican-American War - Cámpora began to make the most important decision in history: whether or not to secede from Mexico. Although there were other towns within Mexican territory that had decided to go their own way, Cámpora's act set off a chain reaction that would see many more towns come together to form what is now Southern California. The first hint that something was amiss came when Mexica Indians raided Spanish settlements near La Paz in 1846. One of these raids resulted in the death of oneMexican soldier and several civilian hostages taken by the raiders. This led President Fernando de Noriega to order an investigation into the matter which found evidence that Mexicans were responsible for this atrocity. In response to this crisis, Congress passed an act authorizing San Jacinto Mayor Don Francisco Sanchez y Costilla to arm and protect himself and his townspeople from any further Indian attacks. Construction on downtown San Jacinto started soon after Cámpora's proclamation went out calling for residents "to arms" against any Indian threats or attacks. The cornerstone for the new courthouse was laid on October 2nd of that year by Santa Ana governor José Gomez Mirós y Becerra with then-President Pedro Felipe Carrillo as honorary chairman On November 15th 1840 a small group of American volunteers known as Dragoon Squadron arrived at Yuma Rivermouth on horseback looking for supplies needed during their upcoming California gold rush expedition appointed by Ulysses S Grant as Commissioner Of Public Works For The West And creek head Jim Bridger with Buffalo Bill Cody who also served as Acting Assistant Sheriff For Los Angeles County
