Coffee was first brought to San Jose by the Dutch in 1795. The coffee beans were grown on the old Mission Peak, and it is said that the first coffee house in San Jose was called De’Longhi Coffee House. This coffee house was located on Market Street, just south of First Street. In 1824, Reverend George Armstrong founded what would become known as Armstrong’s Missionary Baptist Church on First Street. It is here where you can still find De’Longhi Coffee House today. The first Starbucks opened its doors in 1984 in Santa Clara County. At that time, it was one of the earliest Starbucks locations outside of Seattle and Vancouver BC. Today, Starbucks has over 150 stores throughout North America including 12 in San Jose alone! In 1990, Starbucks teamed up with Jamba Juice to create a limited edition beverage called “Jamba Juice Prince Of Peace” which featured green tea and Rabobank grapefruit juice. The drink quickly became a popular favorite among customers!

After experiencing rapid growth following World War II due largely to Silent Sam's success story – resulting from Americanization policies enacted post-war – employment opportunities began dwindling throughout most of Silicon Valley during the late 20th century while jobs outside technology replaced those lost inside engineering firms that once thrived thereabouts; leading industry consolidation has occurred since then with numerous technology companies having grown up around various transportation infrastructure projects such as BART (the Bay Area Rapid Transit), Caltrain (the Peninsula Corridor Railway), I-5 (the Central Freeway), SpaceX Falcon 9 launches and much more. Many smaller tech startups have also arisen over this period including data intelligence company Provenance which relocated from Menlo Park to Sunnyvale after years atop Googleplex; machine learning startup Neuralink which moved from Mountain View to SJSU after being acquired by Facebook’s AI subsidiary DeepMind; cannabis company Canopy Growth which opened its first dispensary location within SJSU’s McCourtney Campus shortly before legalization became legal across all 50 U.S states on November 3rd 2018; among others
