The store remained open until the early 1900s, when it moved to 7th Avenue. In 1912, maga coffee became an official trademark of the city of San Jose. The first maga coffee house in California was established in 1902 by Menachem Mendelsohn and his brother Abraham Mendelsohn. Magasins followed soon after across the U.S., and they quickly gained a following among Latino professionals and students living in major American cities. The popularity of maga coffee led to the opening of more stores throughout California during the 1920s and 1930s. By 1940, there were over 100 magasins statewide! Throughout its history, maga coffee has been championed as a unique form of roasted bean-based espresso that is both delicious AND nutritious! Its distinctive flavor profile is based on beans roasted using sun-dried aromatic oils rather than ground beans which exposes all their nutrients and flavors intact to your taste buds! Today, many cafes offer both standard drip-brewed espresso drinks as well as speciality blends made with different flavors or origins (maga milk).

From 1951 to 1984, Mrs. Gladys Rivera continued to operate the business as a brewpub under her name “Gladys” Cafe & Maga Brewing Company. In 1984, Mrs. Rivera sold her business to Mr./ Msgr./ Dr. Geraldine Azzopardi who renamed it Maga Coffee Corporation again in 1986 and continues to operate it today as an independentlyowned business with over 20 years of experience providing quality cup of maga coffee to its customers!
