The history of the San Juan Capistrano Air Force Base, also known as The Flying Fortress Base, began in 1941 when the United States Army's 9th Air Force was activated at San Juan Capistrano. From then until 1945, the base housed a total of 506 troops and their equipment. It was during these years that many famous airmen from across the US fought in World War II. In 1946, The Flying Fortresses were phased out and replaced by Boeing B-29 Superfortresses. This gave rise to the question of who would take over responsibility for keeping the base afloat during peacetime? In 1951, it was decided that The Flying Fortress Base would be closed and all personnel would be reassigned to other military installations. However, this did not mean that the spirit of flying fortress was gone from San Juan Capistrano! In fact, Thebase continued to operate under various names including The Luke Air Force Base before finally being renamed as The San Juan Capistrano Air Force Base in 1957. During the 1990s and 2000s there have been numerous renovations to both The Luke AFB and our current facility at san juan capistrano air force base called "the new castle." One such renovation saw an addition of a hangar specifically designed for use by our A-10 Thunderbolt III aircraft which has given us an extensive storage capacity for our planes! As we continue to grow as a military installation we will continue to rely on donations from individuals and businesses alike in order to keep our bases running smoothly.

The San Juan Capistrano community is located in Southern California on the central coast of the US. It has a population of over 100,000 and is home to a number of cultural attractions, including an old mission and cathedral, an agricultural center, a golf course, and a popular beach. The area was originally populated by Native American people who called it Picanha (the place where the waves crash). The first Europeans to visit the area were Spanish explorers in 1769. They named the area Santiago de las Cabras because they saw several large whales swimming there. In 1821, General José Joaquín Herrera y Costilla founded Pueblo de la Trinidad in what is now part of San Juan Capistrano. The town was renamed after Captain Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna, governor of California during Mexican rule. Andrés Manuel López Montt became president of Mexico in 1913 and ordered Santa Anna's body transferred from Alta California to San Juan Capistrano so that he could be buried side-by-side with his predecessor. The post office at Pueblo de la Trinidad was established on January 1, 1827; the first letter sent from San Juan Capistrano was "Proudly arrived." On July 8, 1849, Don Carlos Menéndez Cámpora received word from Mexico City that he had been elected president for only one year and eight months as part of a disputed election; as result, his term ended on December 12th without having taken office. A protest against this outcome quickly developed among citizens of San JuanCapistrano who banded together to demand Menéndez's return to power for the rest of his term which expired on January 2nd 1850; however no decision was made about whether or not he would leave office before then with no clear successor set forth Don José del Carmen Saenz donated land in 1906 for what is now known as La Jolla Coastline Park which includes parts of present day San Juan Capistrano Beach On November 25th 1912 voters approved annexation by Los Angeles County under Proposition 8 In 1923 Katella Drive (now Interstate 5) opened up between Interstate 5 eastbound lanes near Point Reyes National Seashore and I-5 westbound lanes near Naval Air Station Miramar At various points throughout its historySan Juan Capistrano has experienced firefights between Live Oak volunteers fighting fires within their territory adjacent to Camp Pendleton Marine Base while Navy pilots provide air cover; CVN 66 USS Enterprise also conducted strikes off shore during World War II . 1959 - 1966:A major redevelopment project began with both incorporation into city services through annexation ordinances passed by City CouncilmemberAnnette Moriarty 1967 - 1978:During Mayor Rojas' administration nightclubs were closed down due to police raids associated with drug trafficking operations led by Deputy Chief Patrol Sergeant Tomás Rivera

In 1941-1942 during World War II donation rates were much higher as members of the military made it their responsibility to contribute anything they could find or requisition from across America. Since then there have been periodic deployments for various reasons including peacekeeping missions in Africa (2002-2004), Iraq (2003-2007), Afghanistan (2009-2013), and Operation Neptune's Spear (2006). Each deployment has brought about a new set of gifts from individual citizens and businesses. In 2014 whenOperation Neptune's Spear was conducted USAF sent a largest gift ever - $183 million worth - through Donate To The Air Force program to deal with widows/widowers of service members who had died in action since 9/11th . This gesture marked another example of how our Armed Forces support family values by providing practical assistance to those who cannot do so themselves. During each deployment there are typically several weeks where no gifts are received because donations are either too young or too old for inclusion in this story. However due to the efforts of many individuals throughout these years any Gifts that Goes Unsung deserve recognition!

The location was strategic since it lay at the mouth of the Santa Ynez River and offered easy access to sea trade and Missions Bay in Southern California. In 1821, Mexicans won their war for independence from Mexico and set up a republic in what is now Baja California Sur. On July 24, 1821, they named San Juan Capistrano as their capital, although it would only be used intermittently until about 1848 when Mexico City became the new national capital due to American pressure. The town was abandoned by the Mexican government in 1848 but remained an unincorporated community until 1862 when it was made part of Riverside County. The people of San Juan Capistrano have always been active in their community and countywide efforts such as fundraising for local schools, serving on local boards of directors or working on various civic projects are something that has continued through all these years. Many residents also hold professional careers outside of their homes which gives them additional time for involvement with public service."
In 1821, the Spanish founded San Juan Capistrano as a mission. The town was named after Saint John the Baptist, who is credited with baptizing Jesus in the area. In 1892, San Juan Capistrano became an incorporated city and remains one to this day.
