It wasn't until 1868 that Italian immigrants Giovanni Battista Pasta and his family started cultivating coffee in what is now the town of Capistrano. In 1886, they opened their own roasting plant and exporting business to Europe. In 1928, Donato Travia became the first individual to import whole bean Colombian coffee from South America for sale in North America. The following year, he founded Travia Coffee Company with Angelo del Riso as president and general manager. Today, there are more than 20 locations across North America selling Travia Coffee products including cafes, restaurants, Giftshops and home brewers.
San Juan Capistrano is a small city located in the southern San Bernardino County, California. The population was 27,594 at the 2010 census. The name of the city comes from Spanish "San Juan" meaning "a place where you can buy bread." The town began as a Native American trading post in 1827 and became an agricultural center after being granted land by Mexican president Antonio López de Santa Anna in 1853. In 1876, San Juan Capistrano became part of Riverside County when it was formed from parts of San Bernardino and Los Angeles Counties. The City's rich history includes some of the most well-known people and events in Southern California. These include: George Custer, who died here on October 6, 1890; silent movie star Cecil Bendix; singer/songwriter Frank Sinatra; actor James Dean; and author Ernest Hemingway. During World War II, many local civilians worked on military bases such as Fort Huachuca and Point Mugu Naval Air Station. Today, much of the city's charm comes from its wide variety of shops, restaurants, bars and nightlife options that make it one of Southern California's most popular tourist destinations.

San Juan Capistrano is a small town in southern California, about 38 miles (61 km) east of downtown Los Angeles. The name comes from the Spanish word "capistrano" meaning cape or headland. The first people to settle in San Juan Capistrano were Mexican and American ranchers who operated on land that was given to them by Spain. In 1849, Captain James Cook discovered San Juan Capistrano and named it after his ship, HMS Discovery. The first post office was established at San Juan Capistrano in 1850. The population of San Juan Capistrano increased rapidly with the arrival of settlers from all over Southern California. By 1875, the population had reached 3,500 residents. In 1860, the United States bought whole Rancho San Rafael from Mexico for $15,000 dollars which included 1,163 acres (500 ha) of land west of present-day El Centro City. This rancho was subdivided into numerous tracts and sold to individual owners throughout Southern California until it was acquired by John Sutter in 1876 for $165 million dollars. At this time the largest and most important tract was located east of present-day Pasadena on what is now called Sutter Heights (formerly known as North Park). Sutter built his massive new mill on what is now Ridgemont Boulevard near Mount Wilson Boulevard just north of Interstate 5 south of Koreatown; this became one of the world's largest mills at that time! The first school in San JuanCapistrano opened its doors in 1870 when a donation from Mrs. Katherine Briggs allowed an English teacher named Miss Brown to open up a School for Girls at 4th Street and Ridgeway Avenue Southwest cornering 3rd Street West.) It wasn't until 1915 when some local businessmen decided to build a community center on top of then existing schools lot next to Mount Wilson Boulevard - they christened it "SanJuanCap." On December 15th 1915 Mrs Margarita Castillo donated 8 acres (3 ha)insula bounded by First Street Northeast/Century Avenue Northwest; Second Street Southeast/Mount Wilson Boulevard Northwest cornering Third Street Northeast; FourthStreet Northwest/Ridgeway Avenue Southwest cornering FifthStreet Northeast which would become home to both public high school auditoriums as well as additional housing developments such as: White Sands High School – now Mountain View High School; East Side Elementary School – now part of Roosevelt Middle School; Our Lady Of Angels Catholic Church – now part of Holy Cross Catholic Church Castlemont Elementary School - Now part Of West Adams Elementary Schools .Over time these elementary schools have been amalgamated into two campuses: Castlemont Unified Academy & Eastside Elementary Schools are currently located at 1201 W National Ave., Rosemead while South Shore Intermediate Academy & Our Lady Of Angels Catholic Church are currently located at 1400 W National Ave., North Hollywood
The first Europeans to come to San Juan Capistrano were the Ten Canoes, who arrived in 1769. The area was part of missions territory and there were no permanent residents until 1821 when the Mission San Juan Capistrano was established. It was located on a small peninsula that juts out into the Pacific Ocean. The mission was successful and by 1847 it had become a bishopric with jurisdiction over all of California except Alta California. In 1849, the mission became an independent Mexican state and its pastor, Father José Gomez, moved his church to Pico Rivera, then part of Los Angeles County. The Bishopric continued to exist until 1912 when it merged with other Mexican bishops’ Dioceses into the new Archdiocese of Los Angeles.
