The United States Air Force has a long and proud history of giving gifts to the people of San Leandro. This engine - which was acquired on behalf of Commander Don Blankenship - will help power Northrop Grumman Aircraft Division’s new F-15E Strike Eagle Fighter Jet program currently under development at SFO Airport in Oakland County.

The United States Air Force gift history in San Leandro, California began in 1949 with the establishment of the USAF Military Air Station (MAMS) at this small community on the eastern edge of San Francisco Bay. The base was home to two P-51 Mustangs and a Cessna 182. In 1957, MAMS became an interim USAF Flying Training School (FTS). FTS commander Lt. Gen. Hap Arnold moved MAMS from its original location on Stockton Street to Donnybrook AFB near Sacramento in 1959. The wing's first jet trainer, the T-6 Texan, arrived at MAMS in 1962. In 1969, when MAMS became Headquarters Allied Forces Europe (HAFE), it also assumed responsibility for all continental US military air bases within NATO and thus shared responsibility for all US fighter aircraft stationed abroad with RAF England and NORAD Canada. In 1975, AFHQ moved back to San Leandro after Donnybrook closed; HQ left behind three wings - Tactical Fighter Command (TFC), Aeronautical Missile Defense Command (AMDC), and Space Wing - each responsible for one squadron of fighters and bombers per wing plus maintenance and support functions associated with those activities. In 1987, Headquarters Allied Forces Europe relocated again to Belgium when that country dissolved as a result of the Treaty on European Union changeover process. CONTINUING ON...

It is the third-largest city in Santa Clara County and the second-largest city on San Francisco's Peninsula. At one time it was the largest city in Northern California, but its size has diminished since then. Its downtown district is home to many high-renowned cultural institutions, including San Francisco State University and City College of San Francisco. The Embarcadero waterfront has become a popular tourist destination for both locals and visitors since it features a wide range of restaurants, shops, and attractions. The first Europeans to visit what is now San Leandro were Spanish missionaries in 1792–1795; they named the location "El Dorado" because of its richgold mines nearby. The area became part of Alta California under Mexican rule following their victory over American forces at Buena Vista on November 7, 1821. In 1916, Congress passed an act authorizing the creation of a air arm within the USAAF. The first fighter planes were built at Wright Field in Dayton, Ohio in 1922. By 1933, American fighters had becomethe dominant type in World War II. However, due to financial limitations set by Congress during peacetime, American fighter programs were interrupted until after Pearl Harbor when Japan began hostilities with America. After 9/11/2001 terrorist attacks on America it was decided that a new war against terrorism would require an all-encompassing response including airpower capabilities beyond those currently possessed by either nation’s armed forces

San Leandro was founded by the Spanish in 1797, and became part of Alameda County in 1856. The city was named for San Leandro Hill, which is located in the center of the city. In 1868, San Leandro became a chartered city with its own government. In 1906, San Leandro merged with Oakland to form one municipality. The City of San Leandro annexed parcels of unincorporated area within Oakland from 1998 to 2002. Today, there are over 100 neighborhoods and businesses within the city limits of San Leandro. The history of SanLeandro begins with Acapulco de la Uribe y Gasset on June 6, 1797 when Pérez de Ayala and his army under Lieutenant Colonel José María Herrera invaded California from Baja California Province on horseback. After a long march they arrived at La Arena on January 13th where they built their first mission Santa Clara del Valle Tejonista (later called Mission New Spain) as part of their campaign to take possession of California’s new frontierland. In 1849–1850 Antonio López de Mendoza led an expedition against Mono Lake but was unsuccessful and returned home without any important results beyond recognition for his men who conducted scientific exploration including mapping what is now downtown Los Angeles Harbor while also taking possession of large tracts along inland waterways including Coyote Creek and Bear Creek near present-day Fremont east side streets/alleys etc.. On July 20th 1840 Mexican General Buenaventura Blanco discovered gold fields at Sutter’s Mill but no one realized it until after 1850 when prospectors started filling up lakeside wells throughout much of Northern California making further discovery possible only later realizing this precious metal lay beneath the Golden State earth! On May 25th 1860 John Cranch discovered oil reserves near Benicia Springs just south of town – this would be key event leading up to prohibition in 1933! In 1865 Mateo Flores acquired 640 acres (248 hectares) southeast corner lot #4 in what is now south end zone 2 (now Elmira), bounded by Third Street east side; First Street north side; Second Street west side; current day Elmira Avenue east side; it would become known as Flores Heights . This property would house many businesses that grew up around it such as A & W Grocery store(still open today), Flower Shop(closed 1965), Masonic Temple(closed 1978), Home Depot(open since 1984). One can still walk through these business districts today! As American settlers began coming into California during the mid 1800s they encountered Native Americans living among them who were very different than those living back East where most people lived close to rice paddies or riverside villages surrounded by farmland or forests - these people were hunter gatherers engaged primarily in trade activities with other tribes nearby or sharing land with other bands operating outposts numbering several hundred individuals scattered across Sonoma Valley between Siskiyou Mountains and Guerneville Lakes - some reports indicate as many as twenty five major groups participated actively in intertribal warfare1 Many skills developed during this time period such as basketry weaving which continued into pre-contact times2 also ayahuasca drinking which may have been used medicinally3
The first permanent European settlement in San Leandro was founded by the Spanish in 1776. The area now known as San Leandro was part of Alameda County until 1853, when it became part of Contra Costa County. In 1865, the population of San Leandro had grown to over 10,000 and it included six distilleries and five breweries. The industry declined during the late 19th century but recommenced during World War I with the war-time boom in munitions production. By 1935, however, the industry had shrunk to a single distillery.
