That same year, Police Officer Fenton Denny purchased about 7 acres of land near Hayward Ave northwest of Jericho Rd for use as a police station and parking lot with a small café serving fresh-roasted coffee until 1954 when it closed down for lack of customers. In 1951, Harry Weinstock established his first cafe inside Antioch College (now UC Berkeley) called “Theerton” which served pre-packaged coffee made at his father’s business Third World Coffee located at 95th St & Townsend Ave., Oakland CA 94612 which had been started by Harry Weinstock himself in 1948 as an importer/exporter of Arabic coffees from Yemen that he bought direct from Ali Baba & The Forty Thieves suppliers in London England while living there with his family during prohibition era days between 1919-1921 when buying Arabian coffees became taboo due to US prohibition laws enforced at that time by then president Woodrow Wilson who felt that any importation or export of alcohol would be considered smuggling according to then criminal law governing those times). San Leandro is a city in the state of California, located on the East Bay of San Francisco Bay. The population was 116,044 at the 2010 census. The San Leandro Delta forms its eastern border and is bordered by Hayward to the north, Union City to the east, Emeryville to the south and Oakland to the west. The first Europeans to visit what is now San Leandro were Spanish missionaries in 1769. The mission was abandoned in 1821 and part of what is now San Leandro was annexed by Contra Costa County in 1856. In 1906, a group of businessmen founded an agricultural colony called Stockton which grew rapidly until World War II when it declined because of heavy military spending. However, after the war there was renewed interest in agriculture and town officials began looking for ways to revive it as a center for commerce and industry. They found success with development of nearby Alameda County as well as establishment of a number of institutions including San Francisco State University (now UC Berkeley) and Northern California Polytechnic Institute (now CPUE). In 1964, then-Mayor Dianne Feinstein announced that she would seek annexation into Contra Costa County so that her city could have more services than those available from her county-run board memberships such as parks or transportation. The idea gained support among many residents who felt their city had been neglected by county leaders while they focused on larger expenses like road construction or social programs. The annexation referendum passed with 61% approval but it met stiff resistance from some business owners who argued that incorporation would give their city too strong an economic voice; however, incorporation did little to change Mayor Feinstein's position since she continued to be elected unopposed until 1990 when she became first female mayoralty candidate in California history. The town's first settler was Nicholas-Jacques Fenton, who arrived in 1779. By 1800, San Leandro had a population of about 100 people. In 1868, San Leandro became part of California when it was annexed by the state.
