As the United States Navy continues to deploy in Operation Neptune's Spear, gift history will be an important part of the tradition. For many years, San Luis Obispo locals have donated items and money to support their navy friends and comrades in harm's way. The USS Constitution Museum offers a unique view into this history by hosting a biennial event called "Navy Gifts from San Luis Obispo." This year's event took place on Saturday, November 3rd from 10am-1pm at the USS Constitution Museum. The USS Constitution Museum is home to one of the largest collections of naval artifacts in the world. Over 350 items from both American and foreign warships are on display, including cannons, uniforms, books, postcards, medals and more. The museum also houses a variety of interactive exhibits that allow visitors to learn about naval warfare and its various aspects. In addition to gifts, the museum has also hosted displays entitled "A History of Naval Warfare" and "USS Constitution: A Timeline." In 1847, Commodore John Rodgers donated his sloop-of-war HMS Lexington (1801) as a gift for saint Donatus' feast day. In 1917, Rear Admiral James Waddell presented his destroyer USS Ponce (1915) as a gift for victory over Imperial Japan during World War I. Commodore David Dixon MacFarlane donated his schooner HMCS Victoria (1912) as a gift for Christmas in 1966. And finally in 1989 Commodore Rick Majerus presented his destroyer USS Halsey (CVL-41) as a gift for San Francisco’s Golden Gate Day celebration. These are only some examples of thousands of gifts given by local citizens throughout our country’s military history! These days there is often much discussion surrounding specific donations or events related to Operation Neptune's Spear or any military deployments around the world - but it is these types of stories that make California so special! The United States Naval Forces Europe (USNFE) is deployed in multiple locations throughout the Mediterranean Sea. The USNFE are responsible for maintaining U.S. sacred interests in the region and playing a leadership role in NATO’s mission to secure European nations from aggression and protect their citizens. In addition, the USNFE provides humanitarian assistance to troops and civilians in conflict areas, as well as participating in maritime security operations. The USS George Washington (CV-65) was Deployed on September 11th, 2016 with an aim of providing support to OperationParticipant before departing for Sicily on October 4th. This deployment was part of the Navy's effort to increase its presence and presence overseas through hosting both multinational exercises and bilateral operations with allies across Europe. Since its inception, the USS George Washington has served as one of America’s most versatile warships available to our Armed Forces; her capabilities have been enhanced through many years of experience operating in various theaters around the world including Iraq, Afghanistan, Libya, Somalia, Yemen – all while carrying out missions that promote democracy and human rights abroad. Her readiness posture has been further bolstered by her participation in President Donald Trump's recently announced global strategy call for increased naval engagement worldwide

San Luis Obispo, California is a city located in central California. With a population of over 122,000 people, it is the third-largest city in San Francisco County and the largest city in Monterey County. The city was founded on November 15, 1769 by Spanish missionaries as part of Mission San Luis Rey de Francia. It became a U.S. territory on January 8, 1821 following the Mexican–American War. As of 2010, the estimated population of San Luis Obispo was over 240,000 people and it continues to grow rapidly with new development projects announced every month. The economy of San Luis Obispo is based largely on agriculture and seafood production; however, there are also some smaller businesses that have become well known throughout the region for their products or services. The downtown area has been renovated several times since its inception and contains many cultural attractions such as the old Richardsons’ warehouse district which has been designated a National Historic Landmark; as well as various museums including the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) campus and various churches and other religious organizations
The navy deployed gift history starts with the Revolutionary War and Navy's first ever gift to the Continental Congress. The gifts were in support of their cause and included items such as pistols, cannons, clothes, and other supplies. From then on, the navy gifted items frequently in support of their troops and allies across the war. During the Civil War, the navy continued to gift items frequently to help assist in combat. In total, they gave out over 1 million gifts between 1861-1865. After the Civil War ended, it became common for members of Congress to receive gifts from various members of the military as part of peacetime friendship ties. However, during World War II there was a marked increase in naval gifts being sent overseas due to America's involvement in Europe and Asia. By 1945, warships had become an integral part of American warfare abroad and Naval Gift History would continue until that time.

The city of San Luis Obispo, California is located on the Central Coast of California. The population as of the 2010 Census was over 82,000 people. It has a rich history that goes back to the 1821 founding of the Mission Santa Cruz de la Frontera by Father Junipero Serra. Today's city was founded in 1795 by Juan Bautista Alvarado and named for his father Los Angeles de San Luis Obispo y Padua. In 1824, Mexico ceded California to United States after its Mexican-American War victory. On July 8, 1850, US soldiers burned down the old mission in what is now downtown San Luis Obispo with artillery pieces while Mexican defenders were inside. The first post office in San Luis Obispo opened in 1849 and was known as "San Lorenzo". The name change came about because it had been decided that "los angeles" would be the new country's official name and not "Santa Cruz". A town hall meeting on May 12, 1851 voted to change the name to "San Luis Obispo". The town suffered from droughts during both World Wars so a water tower/pump station was built in 1922 and still stands today. In October 1949, Mayor Humberto Garrido proposed using a redwood tree as part of local civic signage; this proposal received support from City Manager Don Whitehead but failed when it came before voters at an election night vote (May 13). A year later on November 7th 1950 City Council approved use of redwoods for signs when they voted 5-2 to make all other types of civic signage subject to Resolution No. 4339 which established guidelines for municipal signage including use of redwoods within limits prescribed by Resolution No. 4340 (July 8, 1951). A variety of things have changed since then including annexation by Yolo County in 1959 and then again by Napa County in 1968; however most significant changes occurred with passage by incorporation ordinance (January 16th 1974) which designated San LuisObispoti as a city government area separate from Yolo County government with its own police force and mayoralty elected via popular vote rather than through an election process like that used within county government areas In 1993 voters passed Proposition 118 which provided $5 million per year for environmental restoration projects throughout the city dating back to prior years such as cleaning up wetlands along Pismo Boulevard near campus and removing invasive plants east of State Street
