Coffee has been around for centuries, and its popularity in San Marcos knows no bounds. Some of the first cafes in San Marcos were established by German immigrants in 1881, and they quickly became popular with their customers. Today, there are numerous cafes throughout the city offering various types of coffee drinks, pastries, and even sandwiches. One of the earliest cafes in San Marcos was The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf at 5th and I Streets. It opened its doors on December 12th, 1886, serving fresh-roasted beans from nearby farms all morning until lunchtime. Afternoon tea was also available for purchase at this cafe. The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf continued to be popular until 1933 when it closed its doors due to financial difficulties. Though little remains of The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf today (save for a few stray beans), its legacy lives on through the many businesses that have followed suit over the years: Bajaoco Café (1927-2003), Dutch Bros./Dutch Koffiehuis (1945-2002), Starbucks (1978-2010), danishes (1980s-2000s) and now mainly Bananaphone Cafe which reopened in early 2017 as an outlet of Albertsons/Albertsons Supermarkets chain grocery store on Carlsbad Boulevard across from Stonington High School

Over time, other businesses cropped up around the corner from The Coffee House including The Grapesvine Grocery and Cafe, and finally, the current location of Starbucks in 2007.
The town of San Marcos, California is located in the Mojave Desert and is one of the most northerly towns in the United States. The population was 34,034 at the 2010 census. It is part of Fresno County. The name "San Marcos" comes from Mission San Francisco de Asís, founded by Father José de Mora y Urquiza on November 6, 1769. Father Mora was also a missionary to California. In 1846, General Mariano Herrera set up a military post called Presidio San Diego del Norte near modern-day Rancho Cucamonga in order to prevent Jedediah Smith's exploration of what is now Southern California. In 1851, Mexican citizen Manuel Nieto purchased land at what is now downtown San Marcos for $1 million dollars and named it after his father-in-law Don José de Guadalupe Peralta y Zúñiga, who had served as captain general of Mexico during the Mexican-American War (1847–48). On July 14, 1896 – just over three years after US President Grover Cleveland became president – American John D'Arcy Gillespie became first white person to set foot on Sonoma Valley soil when he landed at Atherton Beach on Mount Diablo. He founded Eureka Springs there eleven days later and named it after his wife: Eureka Springs National Park began as US National Park Service lands adjoining San Marcos east of Highway 101 on August 16th 1959 Eureka Springs has been home to various brushing activities such as cattle ranching operations since before European settlement; however this area still does not have any evidence that humans were ever present here prior to 1860 CE or even earlier than that! Today’s visitors can explore these old areas through interpretive trails which take them back in time experience common place tasks like watering crops and scraping off graffiti throughout history

The town was named for General San Antonio de la Vega who fought in the Mexican War of Independence. The first post office was established in San Marcos on February 13, 1850. In 1865, the United States Army burned down the old adobe courthouse which served as the town's central business district. The reconstruction project cost $1 million and took two years to complete. In 1870, a new court house was built and dedicated by President Ulysses S. Grant. In 1892, John Dominguez became the first Hispanic Mayor of San Marcos when he was elected unopposed after running as a Democrat against incumbent Republican George Nelson Hill. Dominguez represented one of the most diverse areas in Northern California at that time due to its proximity to Mexico City and its large Spanish population. He also played an important role in developingSan Marcos into what it is today: a vibrant cultural center with significant industry and commerce dating back to its early days as a small frontier community
The town of San Marcos, California was founded in 1853 by Captain James F. Austin and his wife Margarita de la Cruz as a post on the east coast of Mexico. The community grew quickly, and by 1875 it had a population of 350. In 1876, the Mexican government granted American settlers land in what is now San Marcos County, which they named after their new home town. The town continued to grow until 1909, when it lost its charter due to lack of population growth. It regained its charter in 1915 but again lost its status due to lack of development.
