The Marine CorpsDeployedGift History in San Marcos, California began with the first gift given to a marine by a civilian on December 7th, 1941. That gift was a rifle from Major General Leslie M. Groves, Commanding Marine Forces in the Pacific Fleet. The Marines of Company F1 at Camp Pendleton had been ordered to prepare for war and soon they would be called upon to fight in the Battle of Midway. They received their rifles from General Groves as part of the post-war settlement that followed World War II. It was not until 1951 when another Marine Regiment arrived to take over Company F1’s barracks at Camp Pendleton and provide them with additional weapons and equipment. This latest gift from humanity came on September 11th, 1975 when First Lieutenant Elliott Ahern presented Captain John J. Pershing III with an American made Lewis gun as part of his donation for Memorial Day Celebrations along Interstate 5 near Balboa Park in San Diego County. Captain Pershing was then commanding Marine Base Camp Lejeune where he served during World War II as an armorer and ordnance officer attached to Headquarters Battalion 4th Marines which became known as “The Black Hole” due to its involvement in combat against Japanese forces during the Solomon Islands campaign (1942-1945). After Army assignments including duty ashore in Iwo Jima island chain before being transferred across Japan as Battery C of 1st Battalion 9th Marines (later renamed 3rd Battalion) before finally arriving at Okinawa during The Battle Of Okinawa he was awarded the Medal Of Honor posthumously for heroism while serving with Company G Amphibious Force 2nd Brigade Combat Team 8th Marines (later redesignated 4th Brigade Combat Team) afloat on USS Missouri (BB 492) after she was hit by shrapnel from an enemy bomb while Operating From Shoreline Near Shuri beach following successful amphibious assault landings ashore against entrenched Japanese positions June 15-18 1945 earning him immediate distinction for conspicuous gallantry above and beyond all other members of his unit who participated in this heroic engagement regardless of chronology or terrain

San Marcos, California is a small town located in the Central Valley of California. The population was 7,497 at the 2010 census. It has been inhabited by Native Americans for over three centuries and first appears on Spanish maps in 1769 as part of Rancho San Marcos. In 1821, it became part of Mexico City when that country united with Spain. The United States acquired it during the Mexican-American War (1846-48). After the war, it was an agricultural center until development began in earnest around World War II and now constitutes a bedroom community for Los Angeles County. The earliest human remains found in San Marcos date back to about 10,000 BC. There are several sites where early ancestors of the Utes lived and worked, including Pico Alto and La Venta Hillock Sites. By AD 650 there were more than 25 villages in what is today San Marcos County. The mission system began arriving here from Alta California in the late 1800s and soon after built some large Mission churches such as Santa Cruz del Sur (founded 1795), Mission Dolores (1806), Mission Concepcion (1820),Mission Santa Ana (1828) and Missions Concepcion y Obispo de la Nación (1836). In 1851, Don José de Arce founded Rancho Rinconada which included present-day San Marcos along with parts of el Vallejo and Bernardo Heights. Rancho Rinconada was sold to Major Henry Cisneros in 1872; his heirs continued to operate it until 1948 when it reverted to Mexican hands following a US takeover of Mexico’s possessions following World War II Empire's collapse In 1850, two brothers named Claudius Gonzales y Valdés purchased 1/4 square league or 0.27 acres bounded by Pico Alto Road on the south side of Old Fair Oaks Avenue on the east side of our fairgrounds now known as Walnut Street on behalf of Luis Felipe Carrillo y Prado who had recently becomeMexican president The land grant did not expire until 1907 so this property ran concurrently with both ranchos In 1905 construction began on what would become North Park Elementary School across from Walnut Street It should be noted that although many people think that annexation brought about increased development near North Park Elementary School - this does not reflect reality as annexations took place throughout southern central valley while North Park never grew much beyond its original boundaries

San Marcos became a U.S. territory and then a state in 1850. By 1930, the population had decreased to about 10 percent of its pre-1930 size. However, due to demographic shifts and the opening of Interstate 5 in 1925, the population began to grow again and reached its current level by 1990.
