The San Marino Coast Guard Auxiliary was organized on December 12, 1916. The mission of the Coast Guard Auxiliary is to provide a auxiliary force that can assist law enforcement and public service activities along the California coastline. The Auxiliary has 11 member agencies assigned to protect coastal communities, include: the Sheriff's Department; fire departments; coast guard; National Park Service; Water Patrol; and medical services. The Auxiliary suffered its first loss when its members were killed during World War I. In 1947, the Auxiliary was renamed in honor of Commodore John W. Stockdale who had served as Commandant of the Coast Guard from 1940-1946. Since then, many more members have given their lives in service to our country including Captain Harry Jahnke who died in action at Beirut airfield on October 20, 1998.

The Coast Guard was founded as a response to the need for backup in case of emergencies on the San Marino Peninsula. The Coast Guard is responsible for patrolling and protecting the coastline, as well as administering law and order on the peninsula. In addition to its duties within San Marino, the Coast Guard also responds to calls from around the world.
The tiny San Marino Valley is located in the far northwest corner of California, and it’s only about an hour by car from Los Angeles. The valley is covered with rolling hills and wide valleys, and it has a temperate climate that is perfect for growing crops. The valley also has several small lakes that provide water to many farms and towns in the area. The history of San Marino goes back to 1853, when two men named John Cranch and George Hearn bought land near what is now downtown San Marino. They built a cabin on the property, and they started trading goods with other settlers in the area. In 1876, John Cranch died, and his son John Q.Cranch took over the business as John Q.Cranch & Son Auctioneers Incorporated. In 1942, sanmarinese citizens decided to secede from their previous country, Italy. As part of this decision, they adopted the name of their new country – San Marino – which stuck until 1995 when Italy regained full control over San Marino. Today,San Marino is one of the most economically prosperous countries in Europe because its economy revolves around its tourism industry. The people here are very proud of their country’s unique culture and history – both good things for tourists who want to see some incredible scenery but bad news for those who live here because most visitors only come to visit historical sites or take photos of Swiss cheese shops without really learning anything about this little known country!
The Coast Guard has been a vital part of our society for over 135 years. The Coast Guard provides first response to emergencies, helps protect the coastline and maritime interests, and assists in the safe navigation of inland waterways. From small boats to tall ships, the Coast Guard has something to offer everyone. One of the earliest gifts the Coast Guard received was a set of binoculars in 1876. The Coast Guard’s first patrol boat, HMSS Half-moon, was built in 1922. In 1974, Congress passed an act authorizing the construction of two new coast guard stations at Point Conception and Onslow Island. Today there are over 200 different types of boats and vessels assigned to the Coast Guard fleet. In 2013, President Barack Obama presented Rear Admiral John Kirby with a gift box filled with items related to law enforcement and homeland security. This included items like handcuffs and Tasers; tools for officers such as pepper spray or shotguns; masks; police vehicles; and more!
The Coast Guard has been gifting gifts for centuries. In 1824, the United States Congress passed a bill authorizing the gift of a life jacket to any person who distinguished themselves by saving lives on the high seas. This became known as the Coast Guard Medal. The first Coast Guard Cutter was christened in 1922 and donated by President Franklin D. Roosevelt to the Coast Guard Museum in New York City. In 1951, the National Defense Authorization Act allocated $5 million dollars to help equip coast guard Cutters with electronic equipment and other improvements necessary for their safety while operating on inland waterways. This was also referred to as "the Cutters' modernization program". In 1956, Congress authorized the donation of a new sea vessel, HMCS Athabasca, which became known as "The Athabascas". The next year, USS John F Kennedy was delivered to the Coast Guard Museum in New York City and renamed HMCS Kingston (in honor of JFK). In 1978, Congress authorized construction of two new coast guard Cutter hulls at Pascagoula, Mississippi. These were later redesignated CG-62 Grays Harbor and CG-63 San Francisco Bay respectively. In 1984, it was decided that all cutter vessels should be named after communities along their coasts if they were used for patrol or service operations; this led to the naming of HMCS Windsor (CG-63) after Windsor Beach on Nova Scotia's Atlantic coastline in 1987 and HMCS Prince Edward Island (CG-62) after Prince Edward Island's capital Halifax in 1990. Since then there have been continual additions - currently there are six coast guard cutters name following their respective community: HCG Thunder Bay (Canada), HXC Gulfstream IV(US), HRV Liberator(UK), HSV Aristocrat(Australia), GFS Neptune(New Zealand)
The small, isolated island of San Marino is located in the Central Pacific Ocean and was originally inhabited by Native Americans. The first European to visit San Marino was Giovanni da Verrone, who sighted it from his ship on December 10, 1521. A year later, Spanish traders landed on the island and began trading with the native people. The first success of Italian colonization in the Western Hemisphere came when a group of missionaries led by Father Francisco Xavier de la Cruz arrived on San Marino in 1772. However, due to its location at the edge of a sea-filled region full of hostile natives, San Marino experienced little development until 1814 when Napoleonic forces invaded Italy and laid siege to Rome. The situation became desperate for Rome and French troops entered the city while ordered by Napoleon to protect Vatican City. As news spread that reinforcements were arriving from Naples and Barcelona, many people fled toSanMarino in an attempt to escape violence and destruction. During these difficult times, many residents turned their back on Catholicism and adopted independent beliefs which helped contribute tosanMarinomania: a spirit of self-reliance that continues today. In 1821–22, more than 50% of all exports went directly into California because no other country would allow ships carrying goods over their coasts without paying duties or tariffs. In 1847–48 two earthquakes struck central California; one caused extensive damage but did not cause loss of life; the other killed about 100 people including six nuns who were trapped under rubble after an earthquake Bible study class collapsed during quake week at St Dominic's Cathedral (now part of Upper Arlington). These events reinforced public interest in seismology as a means for monitoring potential danger ahead and created an urgency for engineers to develop measures against future earthquakes throughout Northern California even though this knowledge had been available since before 1800! With rapid growth within both agriculture (due largely to increased irrigation)and industry (thanks in part to newly developed transportation systems), tensions between locals/ resident groups over land use escalated into violence beginning around 1906 culminating with three days of open warfare between rival communities surrounding Monteriggioni Airport. This led eventuallyto annexation by Los Angeles County but remains oneofthe most documented periodsof friction between different segmentsofan Island community spanning centuries!
The San Marino area was first settled by the Mono people in the late 18th century. In 1795, the United States acquired the land from Spain for $10,000. The U.S. built a fort on what is now Mission Peak and named it Fort Myer after George Washington, who had visited the area in 1799. In 1821, Mexico acquired California from Spain for $14 million and renamed it Baja California Territory. The U.S., however, continued to administer San Marino as part of California until 1914 when it became an independent state within the United States.
