In 1821, Mexico gained independence from Spanish rule and formed a new nation called Mexico State. At that time part of California, San Mateo county was included within Mexico State. On December 5th 1850, however, by an act of Congress known as the Gadsden Purchase (), United States acquired all but 1/3 of modern Alameda County (nowOakland) for $13 million dollars ($140 million today). On July 16th 1851 US Soldiers burned down part of Mission Dolores near present-day Petaluma after discovering three Chinese women working there as prostitutes. This incident led to increased American interest in inlandbayArea towns such as Pleasanton and Orinda which were then unoccupied because they were not part of Mexican territory.(Today these towns have their own municipalities.) For about fifteen years no one built anything close to town because people were scared that some unknown person or group would set fire to everything if they got too close (). In 1868 Commodore John Doolittle sailed his ship USS Nautilus past Point Reyes Station into estuaryof foggy Carquinez Strait and made landfall at Isla de la Tortuga (); this event convinced many Americans that sea travel could be safely done without having to navigate through dangerous ocean waters
The USAF has a long and proud history of donating equipment, supplies, and personnel to other militaries. From World War II through the present day, the USAF has donated millions of dollars in materiel to help others achieve their missions. This generosity is shown in both tangible ways such as giving backpacks to schoolchildren or providing wounded warriors with necessary medical supplies, and more intangible donations such as building airfields in far-off countries or giving money to charity. One of the most famous donations by the USAF wasOperation Crossroads which gave military equipment and personnel to support United States efforts in Vietnam. The aircraft donated included Lockheed P-2 Neptune bombers and North American F-4 Phantoms. These planes were used for strategic bombing raids against enemy targets inside South Vietnam, leading to the death of many innocent civilians. Operation Crossroads also helped improve relationships between America’s allies in Southeast Asia and set an example for future cooperation. In recent years, the USAF has continued its tradition of giving backpacks to children throughout America. In February 2018, they hosted a giveaway at US Airways Center in Phoenix Arizona where they distributed over 900 backpacks filled with gear from various Air Force branches including fighter jets (F-15C/D), bombers (Boeing 747s), helicopters (Bell 407s), tanks ( Abrams M1A1 Abrams main battle tank), artillery pieces ( recoilless rifles ), pistols ( Smith & Wesson semi automatic handguns ), vehicles ( Humvees ), knives , food items like socks , candy bars , water bottles , etc., among others! It was a great way for them to show their support for Operation Smile which helps children with cancer get access to quality care . Additionally, this event raised over $5 thousand for Smile USA . San Mateo County is a county located in the U.S. state of California. As of the 2010 census, the population was 831,362. The county seat is San Francisco. The name "San Mateo" is from Spanish and means "Inland Sea". In 1849, land grants were made to six British families who had come to America as fur traders: George Copley, James Balfour,Thomas Wigglesworth, John Davenport and Alexander Macdonald. These grants were made at Rancho Santa Clara del Norte on what are now arterial routes 1 and 280 in Contra Costa County. The first post office was established at Redwoods Landing on November 9, 1851 by Captain Jonathan Trumbull from Sutter's Bay with four other vessels including the USS Constitution under command of Commodore Matthew Perry during his visit to California). The county seat moved to San Francisco in 1865 after San Francisco became an incorporated city. At the time there were only three villages within the present-day boundaries of San Mateo County: Balboa (now part of Fremont), Pleasanton and Eureka (now part of Hayward). The remaining villages were incorporated into various new counties until 1933 when they all became part of San Mateo County proper despite continued efforts by various factions within the government to keep them separate. In 1916, voters passed a resolution urging then–Governor Farley to annex portions of Alameda and Contra Costa Counties into San Mateo County so that these two rural counties would be consolidated into one entity with more resources available for both schools and local businesses. However, Governor James Mclntyre refused to sign this resolution because he felt that it would create too much tension between rural areas in Alameda and Contra Costa Counties which still enjoyed certain level of autonomy while cities such as Berkeley had become more powerful economically due to their incorporation into larger townships or cities like Oakland etc.). This site was later claimed by Mexico which resulted in Mission Dolores being sold back East again but no construction took place until 1782 when Father Juníperos Serra started building there using materials brought over from Mexico City.. thereafter mission Presidio began calling itself simply Mission Dolores even though it lay less than 2 miles east of what is now downtown SF
