The San Mateo Army National Guard has been providing military support to the community in San Mateo County since 1917. The unit is one of six in California and has a history dating back to World War I when it was activated as a regiment of the California National Guard. In 1940, the San Mateo Airmobile detachment was organized and began providing air transport for units deployed to various campaigns during World War II. In 1957, the unit became an infantry brigade and served in combat in Vietnam. Afterward, it returned home and continued its service until 1992 when it merged with the Marin County Reserve Officer's Training Corps (MCROTC) to form the San Mateo Army National Guard Academy School District #1. Today, our Academy provides cadets from all over Northern California with an opportunity to earn their commission through officer training at one of America's leading Military academies. In 1947, the United States Congress authorized appropriations for a national guard arm within California that would be known as The Infantry Brigade of The National Guardsmen of California (IBNGC). On September 2, 1948, this arm was constituted as part of The United States Armed Forces under Section 924(a) of Title 10 U.S.C., which provided that "the primary purpose" of this division "shall be defense against domestic or foreign aggression." It should be noted that at this time there were no army installations within statewide boundaries; each county conducted its own defense program! Of note are three other significant events during these early days: on October 3rd-4th officers from both battalion Headquarters and Headquarters Company traveled to Japan for extended duty commanding American forces engaged inOperation OKINAWA; on November 15th-16th members from Battalion Headquarters company went into battle against Mexican troops near Tijuana; and finally on December 12th-13th Battalion Headquarters company participated in Exercise Christmas Tree which prepared them for their upcoming deployment overseas! During World War II major changes occurred within THE INFANTRY BRIGADE OF CALIFORNIA (TIIBNCA) including a change in command structure from Major General George Smedley Butler Jr.'s XI Corps headquarters staff commanded by Lieutenant Colonel John Lyle Whitehead to Major General James Momyer's III Corps headquarters staff commanded by Brigadier General Clyde Hinton Smith! On April 1st 1945 Brigadier General Smith assumed command of THE INFANTRY BRIGADE OF CALIFORNIA (TIIBNCA), superseding Major General Butler who had been serving concurrently as Commanding general Pacific Theater Reserve Force!. At this point THE INFANTRY BRIGADE OF CALIFORNIA had two battalions consisting of 3 companies each divided into three batteries...one battalion being assigned responsibility for all tactical operations within five miles thereof while another battalion functioned as garrison force providing security for installation personnel/assets etc... An additional battery per battalion was designated operational reserve if needed but assignment generally resided with first battalion!!! Withdrawn From WWII Service 1946-1948: On July 1st 1946 Troop C / Agricultural Detachment 157 reported having withdrawn from active military service due to inability or unwillingness To fight communism!! This event marks end of military engagement with communist insurgency!! On January 20th 1949 elements including Battery A / 6055 AA Rifleman’s Regiment joined USMC Expeditionary Unit 1015 making portmanteau unit called Marine Air Group 111.... Battery A / 6055 AA Rifleman’s Regiment rejoin USMC Jan 20 49 after 2 years absence.............. San Mateo is a city located in Northern California, on the central coast of the United States. The population was 64,516 at the 2010 census. It is part of San Francisco County. The first Europeans to visit San Mateo were the Spanish in 1769 and they named it Rancho San Miguel de Ferrer. In 1851, California Gold Rush founder John Cranch discovered gold near what is now Alameda and decided to name his new settlement after Saint Michael (Michael), leader of the Archangel Gabriel's 1st Crusade against Satan in Jerusalem in AD 1173. The town was founded by Captain George Wright on November 15, 1851 as a ferry landing for those who prospected for gold around Alameda Bay. In 1865, when Don Carlos Perez purchased land adjacent to San Francisco Bay for $2 per acre (0.50 km²), he changed its name to "San Mateo". In 1868, military officer Colonel James Walthall made an abortive attempt at establishing a connection between Sacramento and Santa Clara by constructing a road from Heidelberg via Stockton and Colma before abandoning the project due to harsh weather conditions near Humboldt Bay; this road would later be built as State Route 24. On January 8, 1850, Walthall also attempted to establish an overland route from Fort Point on Golden Gate Bridge across Eel River into Contra Costa County but failed because of heavy rains that week and snowmelt that melted most bridges across Delta Lake east of Bidwell Hill.. The townsite site where modern-day San Mateo sits was selected by Captn Wright for its strategic location midway between Alameda and Contra Costa Counties with easy access to both coasts - making it an ideal spot not only for trade but also for defense against possible attack from outside allies like Russia or China. On May 16th1870 General Mariano Vallejo ordered Lieutenant Colonel Josiah Greggs commanding all American forces along Coast Trail#2 (later known as Army Highway 101) northwestward towards Tulare Lake following reports of large amounts of silver & gold veins found at Siskiyou Pass & Ukiah during recent surveys by Mexican miners under license from Presidio Governor Manuel Micheltorena – marking one of history’s largest discovery campaigns involving foreign nationals – prompting another massive influx of people seeking their fortunes along what would become one of North America’s richest openoadways ever undertaken… led byCaptain George Wright whose Ferry Landing became known as “Griggs Wharf” thereafter On July 26th 1870 Commodore John Davenport sailed his flagship USS Constitution down Portofino Bay just north ofpresent-day Sausalito sailing past ancient Loma Prieta Headlands which are still visible today offshore just east sideof Sausalito Harbor
The modern army has a long and varied history, with many different types of gift giving. In 1853, the California Gold Rush started in San Francisco and quickly spread to other parts of the state. The influx of people and wealth inspired new towns and villages to be built throughout California. One such town was San Mateo, founded by John Sutter in 1849. The town grew rapidly due to its location on the north shore of San Francisco Bay. It soon became a popular shopping destination for local merchants and residents. In addition, San Mateo had a thriving agriculture sector that produced crops like wheat, corn, cotton and potatoes. One of the most famous residents of San Mateo was Edwin Land, who founded Adobe Walls near what is now Fremont Street in 1851. Land used his farmstead as a base from which he made successful investments in Rancho Notch (later Rancho Santa Clara) and other properties within the region. As the population of San Mateo grew increasingly wealthy, there were demands for more public space. A street called Market Street was laid out in honor of Mayor George Richardson in 1865. This event helped spur development around downtownSan Mateo and spurred many new businesses into being. By 1870, much of what is now downtownSan Mateo had been built up thanks to increased business activity and growth in the socialist movement throughout Northern California during this time period
