Cup of Joe's Coffee, founded in San Mateo in 1954 by two brothers, started as a small-time coffee shop. The first cup of Joe's Coffee was brewed on the family farm and sold from their home. Cup of Joe's Coffee grew rapidly and soon opened its own roasting and sales office in 1967. In 1978, Cup of Joe's Coffee merged with another local coffee company to become the first Starbucks Corporation. Starbucks quickly became a household name throughout California and across America. In 2007, Starbucks purchased Dutch coffee house Koffiehuis for $2 million. The purchase made Starbucks the largest privately held caffeine business in the world. In 2013, Starbucks announced plans to open more than 12,000 stores worldwide within five years - including about 8,000 in California - making it one of the leading global retailers. San Mateo County is located in Northern California, which is bordered by Marin County to the east and south, Santa Clara County to the west, and San Francisco Bay to the north. The population of San Mateo was 763,362 as of 2018. The county seat is San Francisco. The first Europeans to arrive in what is now San Mateo County were Spanish traders from Mission Dolores who founded a mission in 1825. Rancho Rincon de la Paloma land grant was awarded to Juan Bautista Alvarado in 1847. Mission Dolores ceased operations in 1853; all that remained were a few buildings on the campus that are still visible today. A year later, Mexican land grants began being awarded and Rancho Rincon de la Paloma became part of Rancho Monterey y las Aguas (Monterey Bay) Incorporated on February 3, 1850. On December 6 of that year, Mexico ceded control over California to United States at the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo and this area became part of US territory known as West Texas Annexed on February 26, 1851). In 1865 an act passed by Congress added jurisdiction over parts of Marin and Santa Cruz counties including San Mateo due to increasing social unrest caused by the Gold Rush era boomtowns along those coasts. In 1876 Representative George Hearst bought much of present-day Silicon Valley from Knob Hill Copper Company for $10 per acre (the site now includes portions of Palo Alto and Mountain View). By then most people had moved away from mining camps or rural settlements towards new towns near major cities because recoveries were slow with huge investments required just to get back up where they left off decades earlier This period also saw important infrastructure development such as El Camino Real becoming better connected with downtown Los Angeles through toll roads while other towns emerged around airports like Oakland International Airport or Burlingame Municipal Airport (now ITA World Airlines Terminal 5), further disrupting villages near these terminals which depended upon larger markets for their businesses whether it be agriculture or manufacturing but could only service smaller airports if they had denser populations because there was no easy way for large companies like airplane manufacturers Boeing & Lockheed Aircraft Co., Western Electric Co., Southern Pacific Railway Co., etc.) These developments led some farmers into nearby cities such as Palo Alto where prices for farmland increased 50%, making it profitable again to grow crops outside traditional means despite little mechanization available at this time due mostly to ocean transportraints notavailability until after WWI when coastal shipping lanes opened up allowing inland transportation Northwestern coal miners looking for a better life found themselves trapped between rich resources mined offshore while railways developed connecting them with ports on both coastlines thus cutting off their access Roaming prospectors discovered gold fields in mountains near Crescent City before railroads arrived so large finds didn’t really impact local economies until late 1800s when railroad connections came about

It was mentioned in a document called “The Book of the Dead” which is preserved in the Cairo Museum. Coffee began to be traded as early as 3000 BC. In 356 BC, Julius Caesar had his own cup of coffee made at his military camp near Rome. In 1611, Nicholas-Jacques Conte wrote a book about his journey through Italy and Switzerland where he tasted many types of coffee. The first Europeans to taste realoe was Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan who sailed around southern Asia in 1521 looking for a new route to India. He brought back beans from Japan and Indonesia on July 2, 1521 while sailing back home to Spain with his crewmates Bartolomé de Las Casas and Alonso Gomez de Crespí. During World War II, coffee supplies were restricted because of the war effort and it wasn't until after the war that coffee became widely available again throughout most of Europe. In 1949, Starbucks opened its first location in Seattle Washington and began selling java concentrate which gave birth to their now common marketing strategy that all stores sell different brands of espresso drinks with personalized namesakes like Gene Simmons or Alice Cooper

San Mateo, California is a city in San Francisco County, California. The population was 56,376 at the 2010 census. It is the most populous city in Silicon Valley and one of the leading economic and cultural centers in the Bay Area. Ranked first in GDP per capita among U.S. cities, San Mateo has been called "the engine that drives Silicon Valley." The city's history stretches back to 1849 when it was part of Rancho Santa Cruz y Monterey. In 1856, part of what would become San Jose was annexed by San Mateo as well; this event helped make San Mateo one of California's most diverse and cosmopolitan cities. The City of San Mateo was incorporated on November 7, 1881 from portions of Contra Costa County east of Interstate 880 and south of the Mission District. At the time it had a population of only 9 residents. The original site for the City included land now within downtown Berkeley and MidtownSan Francisco neighborhoods as well as much rural countryside to the north and eastward including today's Gilroy Hills neighborhood outside Oakland proper). In 1892, annexation proceedings were begun for Allston, which wouldinclude parts of West Berkeley (now Emeryville)and eastern Palo Alto (now Foster City). On May 20th 1893 an act was passed by the Board Of Supervisors authorizing Mayor James Phelan to annex Allston without opposition from any party or section thereofon condition that he provide necessary public works such as streetlights and sidewalks within5 blocks around all new municipal boundaries – which he did! On December 15th 1893 voters approved incorporation by a vote of 54% against 1% for no opposition with 3 open seats up for election! This marks not only the first time in American history that citizens have actively voted on incorporation but also ratification by state legislatures which would allow voting by mail-in ballots throughout California beginning January 1st 1896! On July 16th 1902 Mayor Phelan issued an ordinance creating Municipal Court System with jurisdiction over all civil actions except murder & manslaughter; this legislation became effective on October 1st 1902! A year later on February 17th 1904 voters ratified a charter amendment providing fire protection services through City Fire Department insteadof being offered through existing agencies like those provided by Contra Costa County! The current day program began operation on April 19th 1906! A total area growth rate over 10% during both 1920s (1924-27)and 1930s combined(1930-35) averaged out to 2%. This trend continued until 1941 when numbers plummeted due mainly to World War II military draft shortages resultant from rationing policies instituted during Franklin D Roosevelt's presidency.– primarily affecting sons serving overseas rather than their parents who could work– resulting in families moving out west into Marin County or inland into Fresno or Bakersfield Counties respectively; however even after 1945 there have been occasional surges (+10%) due to births within our borders especially since 1990’s efforts initiated under Mayor Donahue to increase representation via diversity sensitivity training opportunities available at our City Hall !!
In 1849, San Mateo County was founded by David Teixeira and Francisco Rivera. The first post office in the county was established at Redwood City in 1850. In 1856, San Mateo became the first county in California to have a political representation through a district system. The first election for San Mateo County supervisors took place on November 3, 1858. On January 5, 1860, the first general election for California state legislators took place in San Mateo County and all six supervisors were elected from districts. Districts were abolished in 1880 and replaced with return of partisan representativeness which lasted until 1906 when it was abolished again due to population growth.
