In fact, only one small boat ever constructed at Alexander Valley: a ferryboat called MV Golden Gate that ferried passengers between points along Jenner Street just north of where Embarcadero now stands (and across from what is now known as Google Earth). After years of steady growth and development over ensuing decades – thanks in part to strong annexation efforts by neighboring municipalities – SAN MATEO reached its current size in 1989 with the implementation of Measure B which annexed some parcels eastward from Highway 101 including parts annexed by Hayward Parish since 1966 (including undeveloped land near Point Conception). The measure also transferred ownershipof large tracts adjacent to downtown redevelopment projects such as US-101/ El Sobrante Boulevard/National Airport Rd., Market Square shopping center/Marriott Hotel complex eastward past First Street through Interstate 680/ Daly City Creek toward Hunters Point Naval Shipyard - thus annexing yet another transit-oriented development area adjoining downtown areas covered by Transit Oriented Development Ordinance 1984 (TODO) regulations dating back more than 25 years - making it one continuous urban fabric bounded on three sides by BART stations BART Center (north), Union Station (south), and 24th St./Oakland International Airport Blvd./Parkside Ave./Estate Road 30 W.(east)). This enlarged city has come under increasing attack in recent years due largely to sprawl beyond recognition; bike lanes being removed where streets once ran red with cars going southbound instead; parking spaces becoming scarce near popular destinations such as universities; high school students cramming onto buses heading into Downtown Oakland before their last class lets out at 12:30 p.m.; all this happening while median household incomes continue barely rising above $60*,despite skyrocketing housing prices*! San Mateo County is a county located in the San Francisco Bay Area of Northern California. As of the 2010 census, its population was 242,563. The county seat is San Francisco. It was formed on December 3, 1850 from part of Alameda County and named for Saint Matthew's Episcopal Cathedral, which had been built in 1847 at the tip of Point Reyes Peninsula. The history of San Mateo County goes back to 1853 when it was organized as a land grant to Isabella Maria del Valle by Governor John McDougall. The area now comprising San Mateo and Contra Costa counties were included in Alameda County in 1856. In 1868, the Legislature changed the name of Contra Costa County to San Mateo because of its increasing size and importance as an agricultural district. The largest city and county seat at that time was Dublin, but within a few years other major cities began to grow rapidly such as Palo Alto, Menlo Park and Redwood City. When those towns became too populous or too important for their own governments to manage effectively, they all amalgamated into one new government called the Board of Supervisors for San Jose (later known as Santa Clara Valley). During World War II: In 1941-1942 Japanese forces attacked US military installations throughout North America including at Mare Island Naval Shipyard on Stockton Bay in Stockton; Midway Atoll in Hawaiian waters; Kwajalein Atoll; Eniwetok Atoll; Saipan; Guam; Tinian) In 1945-1946: atomic bombing raids over Japan destroyed most populated areas within Japan including Hiroshima and Nagasaki
The San Mateo County courthouse was completed in 1853, and served as the county seat until 1876. It is a three-story, granite building with a pedimented roof. The courtrooms were designed by architect George Bancroft and are rectangular in shape. In 1906, the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors moved from their original downtown location to the new Palo Alto courthouse complex. The complex also included a jail and other related buildings. In 1968, the old courthouse was demolished and replaced by the current structure.
