In 1912, Stephenson donated his entire firearms inventory to the San Pablo Shooting Club, which then used them to teach children how to shoot. In 1928, Stephenson passed away, but his sons continued making firearms forSan Pablo Shooting Club until they closed their business in 1957. San Pablo is a city in Contra Costa County, California, United States. The population was 25,711 as of the 2010 census. It is the largest city within Contra Costa County by area and the fourth-largest city in Northern California. The land that became San Pablo was first settled in 1846 by Mexican Californians who were seeking to avoid being deported back to Mexico City following theirulas rebellion against Spanish rule. The name means "Strawberry Field" in Spanish. The city proper was founded on June 10, 1848, when Judge James Purdy Richards purchased Rancho San Pablo from Pedro Martinez and his wife Maria Teresa Garcia for $1,000 cash plus fifteen thousand acres ( seventyfive hectares) of property watered by tidal waves at present day Monte Sereno. Settlement continued with a few families until 1850 when gold began to be discovered nearby at Stockton Landing; this led to an influx of miners and settlers into San Pablo Bay which also helped spur economic development around the harbor town of Fremont and its adjacent settlements such as San Leandro and Richmond Heights beyond the bay's shores. By 1860 over 20% of San Francisco's workforce came from what is now Contra Costa County working on vineyards, orchards and cotton plantations throughout the county seat; during this time much of today's downtown San Francisco was built up along Market Street between Portsmouth Square (now Financial District) eastward past Golden Gate Park southward to Mills Road while most Of North Beach developed along Washington Square northward past Embarcadero Marketplace/Yacht Harbor Marina into North Beach again after developing Noteba Valley near Point Reyes National Seashore eastward past Gilroy – all served by streetcar lines running through downtown until 1906 when automobile travel became more popular and passenger trains stopped operating making it difficult for people to reach their jobs outside the central business district; workers who did not want to live nearUnion Station turned out into North Beach neighborhoods like Potrero Hill orviewing Mission Bay where they could walk or ride their bikes to work instead During World War II many American servicemen stayed in San Pablo during wartime encampments scattered throughout Contra Costa County including Refineries at Pittsburg & Hercules which took on a proportionsately disproportionate role with over one hundred barracks housing several thousand men before disbandment in 1945 due largely to then- extant racial segregation laws prohibiting blackAmericans from livingnear white businesses
