Small batch coffee has been a popular drink for years in San Pablo, California. The first small batch coffee shop was opened in the early 1990's by two friends, Mike and Karen. They started brewing their own coffee and selling it at their homes. In 2007, they opened their first location in the heart of downtown San Pablo. Today, they have over 20 locations throughout the city and are one of the most popular small batch coffee shops in town.

The first coffee shops in San Pablo were opened in the late 1800s by Dutch immigrants. The first coffee roasters were Italian Americans, who brought their own beans and roasted them onsite. In the early 1900s, a group of Swiss businessmen purchased the business and started serving quality coffee to local residents. In the 1930s, San Pablo was acquired by Ralston Purina and the company changed its name to Ralston-Purina Coffee Company. In 1945, Don Post became president of Ralston-Purina Coffee Company and decided to open a small café in order to compete with other companies selling similar products. The first cafe was called "Don Post's Café" and it served coffee until 1958 when it reopened as "San Pablo Cafe".

San Pablo is a city in Contra Costa County, California, United States. The population was 21,821 at the 2010 census. It is the second most populous city in Contra Costa County after Walnut Creek and has a population density of 7,500 people per square mile (2,800/km²). It is adjacent to Orinda and Hercules. The first Europeans to visit San Pablo were Spanish missionaries on their way to convert the Coast Miwok Nation in 1824. Juan Bautista de Anza y Costilla explored the area around present-day San Pablo in 1846 and named it San Rafael del Norte for its location near what would become Sacramento. A post office called "San Pablo" was established in 1851, but no town developed from it until 1862 when John Witte built a sawmill and store at what is now Market Street. In 1870, part of Rancho Rinconada became part of Paso Robles District; this district was abolished by an act of the state legislature on February 14, 1871. In 1893–1894 during the California Gold Rush period there was great gold discovery near present-day Santana Lake (). Many miners relocated to San Pablo during that time including James Snider who founded Jardine & Snider merchants general store where he still operates as an active citizen today A new school building known as Mission Dolores Adobe School opened in 1896 on land donated by José Antonio Márquez y Pacheco which had been leased from Coyote Valley Landowner Hiram Sutter for millinery manufacturing purposes only. In 1898 two years later voters approved annexation of Coyote Valley by San Pablo making it a city with its own government The first mayor was Lorenzo Tingey who served one term from 1899 to 1901 A new water tower located at Fourth Street and West Avenue began operation on November 3rd 1912 using water delivered daily from Coyote Valley Dam

In fact, since the early 1800s, coffee has been a widely traded commodity with different countries using different methods to roast and grind it. The history of coffee is intertwined with that of society and culture. The first mention of coffee is in ancient Greece, where it was mentioned as an antidote for fever. Coffee also played a significant role in the development of law and government during the Middle Ages. Roasters such as Peet's began to be built up independently in the 18th century, which allowed them to experiment with different blends and roasts. This led to the development of what we now know as espresso types - those that have strong flavors but don't require a great deal of water or milk (e.g., Italian or Spanish). During World War II, coffee became an important commodity due to its importance in fuel production. After the war, larger companies bought smaller roasters and started selling their beans through grocery stores across America. At this time, little thought was given to quality control or how beans were processed - leading to some very high-quality coffees being sold at bargain prices (e.g., Ethiopian Yirgacheffe). After about two decades of growth within large grocery store chains (such as Kroger), smaller operators such as The Beanery opened up around town beginning in the late 1980s (and later online). These operations were run more like cafes than grocery stores - serving single-origin roasted beans on demand from customers who came into the store for their morning caffeine fix rather than buying them pre-packaged from big box retailers like Kroger. This approach helped make small batch coffee one of America's most popular food items; today almost every major city has at least one smallbatch cafe presence!

San Pablo was founded in 1777 by Spanish settlers as the first post office in California. The town rose to prominence during the Gold Rush of 1849, when it became the center of an important gold mining town. San Pablo also became a Regional Center for Health and Welfare in 1951, and a city in 1969. Today, San Pablo is a vibrant community with an rich history and culture.
