After much negotiation with other landowners including Capistrano’s Nicolás Murillo (owner of Rancho Rinconcito)Borrego obtained title to over 21 square miles within Rinconcito which included present day DowntownSanRafael across Coyote Creek from Frontera Road today’s Main Street The Mexican government granted them land east of Coyote Creek for their new mission; this area became known as El Presidio de la Real Casa de Guadalupe y Nuestra Señora del Rosario Roman Catholic Church which functioned as a military outpost until1849 when it moved into newly constructedMission Dolores where it still stands today beside modern day Civic Center Plaza
