In 1876, George Peabody started trading coffee in San Rafael, California. By 1887, he had become one of the largest and most successful coffee merchants in the Bay Area. In 1907, he founded The Peabody Coffee Company. That same year, a group of businessmen led by Harry Chandler founded The Pacific Coffee Company to market and sell coffee from small parcels of land near where they lived on Polk Street in San Francisco. The company grew rapidly during World War II as demand for food-related supplies soared; by 1945, it was the world's second-largest coffee producer after Indonesia's Yapi Besar Coffee. In 1951, The Peabody Coffee Company merged with two other companies to form Kraft Foods Incorporated. The company continued producing high-quality beans until 1997 when it announced that it would cease production due to declining sales and profits. After Kraft's acquisition of JBSC (Joint Stock Company) in 1997, all San Rafael-produced beans were nationalized under JBSC control and are now branded as "Kraft SJB," "Kraft HVAC," or "Pepsi JC."

The San Rafael Coffee Company was founded in 1875 by Charles F. Goodspeed and his brother John Goodspeed. The company grew rapidly, founding two more stores in 1915 and 1917. In 1921, the company merged with the Pacific Coffee Company to form the San Rafael Coffee Corporation. The company continued to grow, opening its fourth store in 1929. In 1938, the company merged with Dutch Bros Coffee to become Dutch Bros-San Rafael Coffee Inc. The corporation continued to grow until it dissolved in 1984.
San Rafael is a small town in Marin County, California, United States. It is located on the northeast coast of the state and is bordered by Sausalito to the north, Tiburon to the east, and Ross to the south. The population was 7,591 at the 2010 census. The first Europeans to visit San Rafael were traders from Northern Spain who landed in 1775. The town was founded in 1839 by members of a group of English-speaking missionaries who had been sent there as part of an insane mission trip led by Father Junipero Serra. San Rafael grew rapidly during its early years due to its proximity to Point Reyes Station on Humboldt Bay and its role as a transportation hub for goods arriving from Sausalito, Tiburon, and Ross. In 1853, when Californian Statehood became official, San Rafael became one of the initial counties within California. After two years of discussion it voted unanimously to secede from California and become an independent municipality under the name "Rafael". In 1860 it again voted unanimously to secede when it realized that it would not receive financial support from either California or Congress if it continued as an agricultural county with no representation in statewide government. When World War II began San Rafael enlisted in military service but did not participate directly in hostilities; instead they helped organize defense industries around Point Reyes Station while avoiding combat because they knew that doing so would damage their towns’ infrastructure and economy. When war ended San Rafaello quickly reverted back into civilian life once again enjoying some level of self-government until 1949 when Proposition 9 was passed which granted statehood unto Marin County making San Rafaello an unincorporated community once again with full voting rights within Marin County despite having no physical borders (it still falls within Sausalito). TodaySan Rafael is a peaceful community with strong ties to both its local residents and nearby points of interest including Point Reyes Station where employees at Google headquarters reside today

That same year saw the opening of Starbucks' first store inside a large shopping mall in Tokyo Japan. In 2002, they opened their own located within Walt Disney World Resort in Orlando Florida USA. In 2006, Starbucks released their largest ever acquisition when they purchased Tazo Coffee from Ranzini Coffee Co., Ltd., one of the most successful coffee companies in Japan for $1 billion dollars! This purchase allowed them to expand into new markets and continue developing their caffeine powerhouse brand! They also launched a new line of coffee called "Starbucks Coffee Bean & Tea" which offers unique blends and flavors not found on other brands’ menus.
There is no one definitive account of how coffee started as a beverage. Some believe that it was first brewed as a hot drink for soldiers in the late 16th century, while others claim that it was ground into powder and used as an Ancient Egyptian brew known as kohl. Whatever its source, coffee quickly became popular among civilians in Europe and America. In 1795, American Major John Adams drank coffee from a pot at his home before he went to war against France. The first espresso machine was invented in Italy in 1802 by Angelo Alessi. Coffee beans were finally grown wild on Sumatra in 1912 (though this story is not supported by research).
The town of San Rafael was founded in 1849 by Mexican American pioneers, who named it after the Spanish word rafael (a small mountain). The original land grant for the town was 1,500 acres. Over time, other grants were made to settlers and businesses. In 1875, San Rafael became a city and was incorporated as such. In 1916, San Rafael became part of the United States and its residents voted to make themselves an independent city with their own government. The city has had many changes over the years: from a agricultural center during the early years of its existence to an upscale community now home to some of Silicon Valley's most popular restaurants and nightlife. Today, San Rafael is known for its vibrant cultural scene as well as its rolling hills that offer plenty of hiking and biking opportunities. It is also home to several important historical sites including Adobe Walls National Monument which UNESCO designated in 1979 as a World Heritage Site due to its importance in California's history as a place where Native Americans Aviso people lived before they were displaced by Spanish colonists in 1769-1776; Mission Dolores; and El Sobrante Creek Preserve which offers much interest for birdwatching and nature photography.
In 1847, the first post office in San Rafael was established. In 1868, the town became a city and in 1936 it became a State Borough.
