There is no question that the Air Force has been a major player in gift history in San Ramon, California. The service has given many memorable gifts to residents and businesses over the years, and it is clear that its gifting tradition continues today. The first air force deployment gift was given to the city by General Curtis LeMay in 1948. The general made a donation of $15,000 to be used for public works within the city. This donation helped create bonds of communityliness between San Ramon and its military family members. In 1967, General Norman Schwarzkopf presented Mayor Dick Heineman with an airplane as a thank you for his support of the Air Force during World War II. The Mayor enjoyed flying in this new aircraft until it was retired in 1978. In 1984, Lt. Colonel Rick Atkinson donated an F-111A “Super Stallion” fighter jet to the City of San Ramon as part of Project Santa Cruz. This gift represented an important milestone for the city because it became one of only two cities in California to receive such a powerful fighter jet from the United States Air Force (USAF). Over time, gifts from various branches of the military have been bestowed on San Ramon residents and businesses. In 2002, Lieutenant Colonel John Halloran gave back money he had taken from Vallejo business owners for official military events at Vallejo Naval Stationlocalizing them into one night event called "Gift Night". This function allowed local businesses to give back something special each year on December 6th - something that meant alot to locals who enjoy good food and drinks during this special evening! In 2006, Major General Don Armstrong presented Dr. Gregory Blackman with a Humvee as part of Operation Carolinas/New Bern/Murphy Countyilles program celebrating Veterans Day - another fantastic gesture from our Military! It's clear that there is nothing that our Armed Forces can't do or offer which makes us appreciate their services!

On December 3, 1941, the United States Air Force announced that it had deployed a gift history unit to San Ramon, California in support of the Santa Ana National Weather Service. The unit was activated and began serve as an assets management organization for the National Weather Service's San Ramon branch. It also served as a training ground for future service members tasked with providing weather services in Southern California. In 1992, the Air Force gifted three helicopters to the City of San Ramon in recognition of its role in providing air traffic control during Operation Desert Storm. The helicopters are currently used by the City as public transportation and are on display at various locations throughout San Ramon.

Some of the more common recipients of USAF gifts are units or individuals who have contributed significantly towards unit cohesion or success, as well as friends or family members who have made significant contributions in one's life. One of the most touching aspects of this program is seeing how often people from all walks of life take advantage of the opportunity to send a present home with an airman. Whether it's a civilian friend who has shared a meal with an airman during deployments or someone who has donated time or money towards community projects, everyone involved in this process makes sure that every gift received by an AF member is deeply appreciated.

This program evolved from the AFSC (Air Forces Special Collections) organization which was created to document and preserve military artifacts. The AFSC developed a collection of gifts for display in museums throughout the United States. In 1961, the USAF established an oral history program to commemorate these important moments in Air Force history by preserving these items permanently.

The population was 756 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1849 by prospectors John C. Fremont and Andrew Marvell as the Town of Ramon. In 1853, it became an incorporated town and in 1876 it gained cityhood. The name honors Mexican General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna who fought against United States forces during the Mexican-American War. The city has been nicknamed "the financial capital of Silicon Valley." Its economy depends on technology and pharmaceutical companies, as well as other businesses that create jobs in information technology, software engineering, manufacturing, data processing and other related industries. San Ramon also contains a number of cultural attractions including the Presidio Museum of California History (the first museum built in California),[2] Golden Gate Park,[3] Mount Tamalpais National Monument,[4] and several large shopping malls such as Santana Row Shopping Center and Bayview Mall
The city of San Ramon was founded in 1887 by lumber baron George Hearst. The city grew rapidly during the early years of its existence, and by 1890 it had a population of over 60,000 people. However, by 1907 the city's population had fallen to under 25,000 people. In 1935 San Ramon was annexed into the City of Los Angeles.
