San Ramon, California is a town of approximately 60,000 people located in Contra Costa County. The coffee industry was first established in the early 1900s and San Ramon has been an important center for the coffee trade ever since. During the late 1800s and early 1900s, San Ramon was one of the largest coffee production areas in California. In addition to its dominant role in the coffee trade, San Ramon also became known for itsartisanal produce and wine production. The first recorded mention of coffee being grown in San Ramon comes from 1846 when Pierre-Jacques Chardon wrote about "a small family that sells beans from their house near Mission Bay." Chardon's description does not include information about where or how Coffee beans were produced; however, it is likely that these were either local or imported beans. By 1852, two years after Chardon's writing, it was mentioned that a "couple of men are planting someçà de café" (coffee) on what is now State Route 101 north of town. This may be the first reference to coffee as we know it today. In 1872, Nathan Sailser opened his mercantile store on Market Street which soon became known as The Noodle Shop due to its extensive offerings of noodles and other food items related to the burgeoning bean Trade. One year later he reopened his business under new name - Nathan's Coffee House - becoming one of the most popular spots for breakfast in town. In 1898 Nathan founded J&J Coffee & Tea Company with his brother Julius Ayerbach which eventually grew into one of Northern California's leading grocery stores and retailers throughout much of 20th century United States. During this time period there were numerous other businesses operating within San Ramon - many providing services related to both agriculture and commerce such as Blacksmithy & Forge Works; Hardware Store; Grapes Nuts; Strawberries 'N' Cream; Mrs.' Haas'; Mrs.' Willcox laundry shop; Bake Shoppe etcetera - each contributing significant amounts of economic growth and development within their respective spheres over time. Some notable milestones during this time include: 1945 when Pacific Coast Highway was built through town intersecting SR 101 at Town Square eastbound making transportation easier for locals commuting into Silicon Valley(*); 1958 when City Council changed hands from Democrat to Republican (*); 1966 when water pump station was built (−). Many more significance events occurred during this tumultuous period but are not relevant to our story here! A Brief History Of Artisan Coffees In The Area: 1951-1970 It wasn't until 1971 when Ronny Weinberg decided to open La Caja Azul near Eastgate Mall that artisanal coffees truly took off within San Ramon itself(*). At first Ronny sourced all his beans direct from various farmers surrounding him while operating out Of Order Coffeehouse adjacent thereto (*). However by 1977 Ronny had moved all operations inside La Caja Azul under one roof(*), establishing what would become an iconic institution within our community*. Artisan Coffee is a unique and delicious coffee that can only be found in small, independent cafes. It is made with ground beans from fresh, organic sources and has a flavor that is rich and full-bodied. The first time I tried artisan coffee was at one of the smaller cafes in town. The coffee was great, but I didn't have anything to put it on my Toastmasters card or anything. So I started drinking it more often, and soon enough, I realized that I really enjoyed it. As far as taste goes, there's something about the way artisan coffee tastes that just makes you feel special and like you're not just getting your morning caffeine fix; you're getting a true cup of artisanship. The flavor difference between the different types of beans used in artisan coffee can be quite amazing - some are fruity while others are roastier. There's something for everyone when trying out this style of coffee!

The city of San Ramon, California was founded on October 24, 1849 by José Murillo and his brother Fernando. The City was named in honor of General Antonio López de Santa Anna who had been defeated at the Battle of Buenavista on October 23, 1847. The Mission San Francisco de Asís was founded in 1776 and serve as the oldest continuously operated Catholic mission in Alta California. In 1821, San Ramon became part of Mexico and remained so until 1850 when it became a part of the United States. On February 14, 1850, San Ramon was incorporated as a town under the name "San Ramón". The first mayor was José A. Valdés y Luna. On November 1, 1860, President James Buchanan designated San Ramon as the seat for Southern Nevada Territory which included much of what is now Northern California including parts of today’s Kern County and Riverside County. In 1861-1862 developments occurred that led to the erection of a new brick building called “The Capitol” on First Street between El Camino Real and Paseo del Oro Streets that served as home to the Board of Supervisors from 1861 to 1862; later known as City Hall Annexe since 1974limitation on meeting space within city limits after passage of Proposition 115 In 1865-1866 Granite Mountain Railroad built their tracks through what is now downtown San Ramon providing transportation links between Stockton (north) and Sacramento (south). This increased business activity which resulted in an influx of people into what is now downtownSanRamón starting around 1870known locally as “the Gilded Age” during which time many businesses were built such as banks, hotels, theaters and stores followed by residential development contributing to growth throughout those decades culminating in arrivals from all over the world during World War II giving rise to what is known todayas “the post-war period”
