The United States Air Force deployed a gift to the Sanger community on Dec. 12, 1951 in commemoration of the city's centennial. The gift was an A-4E Skyhawk fighter jet aircraft, donated by Major General James E. Hillyer, Commander Ninth Air Force at Bagdad Air Base, Iraq. The plane arrived at Sanger Municipal Airport on December 9 and was unloaded by members of the local airline industry at the airport's hangar. The Wright brothers had flown their first airplane into Sanger Municipal Airport on December 17, 1903. On that date, George Westinghouse founded American Telephone and Telegraph Company in Sanger and his son Theodore took over as president of AT&T from Westinghouse in 1923. In 1941, American Aircraft Corporation merged with National Broadcasting Corporation forming NBCUniversal which owned and operated television stations across North America including those in Sanger. In 1951, General James E. Hillyer became Commander Ninth Air Force at Bagdad Air Base Iraq where he supervised operations of three combat wings -the 1st Bombardment Wing (1 BW), 2nd Bombardment Wing (2 BW) and the 4th Bombardment Wing (4 BW). He also served as Commandant of cadets at Lackland AFB Texas during this time When he learned about Sangers' centennial celebration he decided it would be a good idea to contribute an airframe to keep alive our aviation heritage here in California As we enter into our third decade as a community we continue to celebrate all that has made our state so special such as its rich agricultural history butternut squash being grown here since 1795 while almonds were roasted offsite some 400 miles away; or how Cowpens Naval Station played an important role during World War II when hundreds of Sailors from USS Lexington landed here for training before sailing back home; or how more than 50% of all Californians are citizens who have something directly related to their state heritage! We are proud to have been part of this great state since it began!

Sanger, California is a small town located in Kern County, California. The population was 3,969 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Fresno metropolitan area. The Sanger post office was established on December 24, 1879. The town began as a cattle and sheep ranch named Sanger Station. In 1902 it became an agricultural center with over 100 fruit trees and grapes growing; dairies; and two grain elevators. A smelter opened in 1922 making sourdough bread from ore mined in nearby Tulare County. In the 1930s the community grew into a large city with 2,000 people when it annexed parts of nearby Madera and Hanford City. Manufacturing industry declined after World War II but has revived since the 1990s with construction of new factories including one that makes solar energy products. A shopping mall called "Sanger Towne" opened in 1984 adjacent to Madera High School which remains open today as an educationally-friendly retail destination for parents who want their children to have access to local businesses while they are still young enough to enjoy learning about them too.
Although it is notclear when Sanger first settled in California, he likely arrived there sometime during the mid 1800s. After purchasing land in what is now Fresno, he began developing his new land into a citrus grove and cattle ranch, which eventually became one of the most important agricultural regions in California. In 1873, Sanger met Dr. Charles Goodyear who was doing research on rubber plantations in America and convinced him to invest in a similar project in California. This led to Goodyear's invention of the tires that would later be so important for vehicles and other industrial applications. The industry that sprang up around Sanger's farm was also very important; it provided jobs for many people and helped support the growth of Fresno and other parts of Central Valley.
