The couple started a grocery store called First National Supermarkets in 1954; it merged with Safeway Stores Incorporated in 1984 to form Safeway/Walgreens Companies plc. In 2006, Harry Kelling III died after an extended illness at age 102 years old; his widow sold their share of the company to Walgreens Boots Alliance plc two years later for $13 billion US
