This voyage is often considered to be one of America’s earliest commercial voyages to foreign countries. In 1907, Sanger became home to one of California’s first Marine Stores when J.P. Morgan erected a pierhead warehouse on what is now First Street North near where today's City Hall stands. In 1930,the store moved to its current location at Seventh Street North between First Avenue North and Second Avenue North after being destroyed by fire in 1929-30
