The ship arrived at Sanger, California on December 12, 1941 and began operations on January 17th 1942. The USS Constitution served as flagship of Rear Admiral Chester Nimitz's forces in the Central Pacific Campaign and was awarded five battle stars for her service.
Sanger is a small town in Kern County, California. It is located on the Kern River, about 23 miles (39 km) east of Bakersfield and 18 miles (29 km) south of Border City. The population was 1,816 at the 2010 census. The community was named for George Sanger, an early settler who developed a mill here in 1885. The name has been changed multiple times since then and currently stands for "Strathmore Heights". A post office called Sanger was established in 1887, and remained in operation until 1959. The first settlers arrived around 1870, with many coming from Oregon. By 1888 there were already several churches in the area and it had a school as well as a store. A fire destroyed most of the buildings in 1901, but again the town started to grow quickly thanks to its fertile soil and lumber industry which soon produced agriculture such as hay crops and bananas. In 1916 Sanger became one of three communities within the new Kern County seat of Bakersfield; it housed both county offices as well as most of the businesses that would make up the new city during its growth over the next few decades. After World War II ended there was Little Red School House on Main Street which served as both a social services center for war- widowed mothers and also used by Army officers quartered nearby when they needed to be notified about troop movements right away without waiting for better information available from more central locations like Topeka or Sacramento. In 1957 additional businesses opened up including two restaurants – White Sands BBQ & Grill on Main Street serving Americanized Chinese cuisine while another operated by ranchers - Western Slope Ranch Supply Store - offered groceries, feed supplies and other ranch related items to residents attending their property off East Highway 99 outside of Sanger limits until 1984 when state law tightened these boundaries making Western Slope Ranch Supply Store ineligible for continued business beyond Lakeshore Boulevard inside city limits

This proposal was accepted and this tradition continues today. In 1951, Commodore Dewey announced that all naval vessels would sign a document declaring their support for the United Nations. This gesture helped contribute to America's growing international reputation and has helped make her one of the world's leading nations.

Sanger was founded in 1876 when five brothers, Edward, George, Hiram, Andrew and John Sanger came to California from New York. Their father had come overland in the wagon train that arrived inCalifornia in 1849. They started a farm near Bakersfield. In 1879 they moved to Redding and started a grocery store. In 1887 they bought out their brother George's share of the business and changed the name to Sangers Grocery Company. The company was incorporated on July 1, 1889. It became one of the largest grocers in California with stores throughout the state. The company prospered until 1918 when it went bankrupt due to World War I production shortages
