The Santa Ana Army Depot is a former military installation in the city of Santa Ana, California. It was first established in 1907 as the Fort Aliso San Juan Military Camp. The depot served as an ammunition and artillery weapons storage depot until it closed in 1991. In 1994, the fort was turned into the Santa Ana Army Terminal and Museum, which still serves as a museum today. In 1917, the United States War Department accepted an offer from Mayor John Fortunato to lease land for an army post on Mount Hope Avenue. Upon completing plats for the post, Major General William Sperry ordered that all buildings on Mount Hope Avenue be destroyed and replaced with barracks for troops. The new post became known as Fort Sam Houston after President James K. Polk delivered the keynote speech at its dedication ceremony on November 12th of 1917. The First World War saw an increased demand for munitions in California due to both civil unrest and World War I hostilities around the state. The war also created temporary jobs at various munitions factories across Orange County while soldiers were stationed here during wartime innings such as 1918-1920 when they were employed by American Arms Company (AAC) located at 940 E Street between 2nd street and 4th street; Armstrong Aircraft & Steel Works (AASW), located at 5555 Skyline Boulevard; Western White Corporation (WWC), headquartered at 9515 CW Ranch Road; Behrendt Corporation (BHRD), located at 6951 Old US 101 North]; Henry Horseshoe Mines Co., located east of Sepulveda Boulevard on State Route 17], among others]. In 1951, following recommendations from generals Overstreet and Westmoreland, Congress approved Operation Neptune's Spear which called for United States forces to invade North Korea with Operation Plan Sunburst.[1] At this time there were no U.S.-owned arsenals or military bases in Southern California so elements of Headquarters Ninth Air Force were based out of El Toro Marine Corps Base before moving to Vandenberg AFB when that base became available in late 1951.] In 1971-1972 Strategic Air Commandactivated Minuteman III missilesat Edwards AFB near CA-125 just north of Corona Canyon Rd although those missiles never went live because Minuteman IIs remained operational until 1992.] In 1990 Santa AnaArmy Depot closed effective 30 Jun 91 after 45 years of service ]

Santa Ana is a city in Southern California, United States. The population was 201,243 at the 2010 census. It is the second-largest city in Orange County after Anaheim. Santa Ana was founded by Spanish colonists on December 25, 1777 as part of Rancho San Fernando de la Palma y Santa Ana. The City Hall and other municipal buildings were completed in 1892 and are located on North Fourth Street near downtown Santa Ana. The original name for Santa Ana was Rancho Viejo de las Flores (flower ranch). On February 12, 1847, Act No. 6 of Supervisor Manuel Michelino designated Los Angeles as the "new" capital of California when Mexico ceded all of what is now Orange County to the United States following Mexican War II. At that time, Mission San Juan Capistrano had been abandoned by its builders due to Indian hostilities and it lay fallow for many years until José Joaquin Pacheco acquired it from the mission's Church authorities in 1845 and began construction on what would become known as the Presidio of Monterey Park. The first building erected onsite were a couple of adobe huts which served as courthouse and jail cells until 1840; once Fort Tejon became available for garrison duty during Mexican–American War II (1846-48), these structures were enlarged and turned into barracks while Pacheco continued work on his new military fortification. One result of this activity was that Pacheco also built a small chapel within his walls dedicated to St John Bosco which served as both church and court house until 1850 when he transferred ownership thereof to Franciscan friars under Father Francisco Javier Sánchez y Quirós who renamed it Nuestra Señora del Rosario Conventual de Nuestra Señora de los Dolores conventual en 1855; finally Tagle donated land adjacent to Nueva York Avenue east of Hudson Street between 2nd/3rd Streets in 1870 which became known politically thereafter as East Second Street because just east of its intersection with East First Street lay East Broadway which then became famous commercial thoroughfare through Downtown Los Angeles Limited access thereto until 1906 when restrictions placed upon building along then arterial streets resulted in brickbats being hurled against several large new department stores frontsing EAST STREET during Commercial Exposition Parade held annually over one week preceding November 4th parading West ThirdStreet therebyNo doubt resultingintheinstallationofElaboratedInscriptionOn facadeOfFirstNational Bank BuildingOnnowelcomingNorthwest cornerOfEastThirdStreet proximateToSouthwest corner OfWestSecondStreet landmark still extant today)
In 1817, the adobe and mission buildings of Mission Santa Ana were completed. The original church was dedicated on July 24, 1818. It was built in a Gothic Revival style and is now known as the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception. The building served as the parish center for most of Southern California until it was replaced by the Catholic University of America in 1928.
