At first all land within Mexican territory was divided between New Mexico and California; however, following Mexican independence from Spain in 1848 many lands were given to Californians who claimed them under the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo which ended the war. In 1851 various local officials met at City Hall to adopt a new constitution which provided for municipal government with three wards: first among these was that named Palo Alto (northwest corner), then Fullerton (southeast corner), and finally Anaheim (southwest corner). On January 8th 1860 a special session of the state legislature approved passage of an act creating Anaheim with boundaries described as follows: " bounded on the north by Porter Avenue eastward unto Congress Street; on the south by Chapman Avenue southwesterly unto Ontario Street; on the east by Doheny Boulevard easterly unto Glassell Street" This act created what is now known as Irvine Co., Ltd., which operated much like state agencies until 1906 when it became an independent corporation governed by a board chaired by an elected mayor and treasurer direct from citizens through polls supervised by police officers enjoying immunity from civil suit without process or jury trial except in impeachment cases where evidence could be obtained through covenants made between townspeople and developers! From here things went downhill rapidly for Irvine Co.: annexation into cities continued apace until developer interest peaked around 1920 when zoning regulations were rewritten making single family homes more fashionable than ever before while destroyingcharacteristic old residences thereby causing prices to skyrocket even beyond those reached just two years earlier When World War II began munitions production increased along with demand but due primarily to imports competition led prices again TO EXPLODING LEVELS IN 1945 WHEN THE COASTLINE BEGAN TO BE BUILT UP AGAIN AND BUSINESS MANAGEMENT WAS REQUESTED BY THE GOVERNMENT TO INCREASE DEFENSE SUPPORT FOR THEPacific ISLES glutting domestic production so prices crashed once again resulting in mass layoffs throughout much OF AMERICA BUT ALSO INCLUDING SANTANA In 1957 Disneyland opened its doors followed quickly by Hollywood Studios adjacent to it both having been built using public money only 10% funded jointly By Local & Federal Governments vs 50% private investment typically seen today These operations together generated over 1/3rd Of All Total Revenue For Southern California’s 2 most important Cities combined !!!!!
