The Santa Ana National Guard was established in 1916 as the California Division of the American Legion. It was originally located in Anaheim and served as a military auxiliary to the city government. The guard's first commander, Colonel George W. Smith, became its first president in 1917. In 1919, the division became an infantry regiment and served in World War I and World War II with distinction. In 1957 it was redesignated as the Santa Ana National Guard Infantry Division and concurrently activated for Operation Neptune's Spear during Khmer Rouge rule in Cambodia. The division participated in many peacekeeping missions throughout Latin America over the years, most notably Operation Just Cause which aimed to overthrow Fidel Castro's communist regime on Christmas day 1989. On July 27, 2013, elements of the Santa Ana National Guard Infantry Division along with other units from Orange County formed what is known as "Operation Blessing" to support local hurricane relief efforts following Hurricane Sandy.. The unit supplies water treatment plants and shelters for evacuees throughout Orange County until all necessary equipment has been delivered by Federal Homeland Security officials. As of September 30th there have been more than 2 million liters of water delivered to these facilities statewide!

Nixon signed Executive Order 13536 which created the modern day National Guard system within the Department of Defense. This order transformed the militia from an experimental wartime reserve into a professional arm of government that can be mobilized at any time for wartime purposes including peacekeeping or patriotic duty abroad. Today, there are over 350 different state and territorial defense agencies that rely on nationals guard soldiers for their services; these organizations include police departments, fire departments, environmental protection agencies, border guards, etc.). Guardsmen also serve with distinction in many specialties such as airborne infantry battalions ( parachute), artillery units ( howitzer), marine infantry battalions ( rifle platoon), Special Forces teams ( Delta Force ), Search & Rescue teams ( EMT ),and airmobile assault battalions( transport helicopter). Many Guardsmen also serve with unit stationed overseas where they provide vital combat support to allied troops fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan as well as other nations across battlefields around the world.

In 1851 the town became incorporated as part of Los Angeles under Act 527 of 1851 which authorized annexation by Los Angeles City proper if no other municipality objected within two years...In 1907 Anaheim annexed most parts of neighboring Huntington Beach then Measure V passed by vote to annex all but 3 blocks east of 7th Street between Nueces and Soto streets; this annexation created Anaheim's current CSA boundaries...In 1909 Southern Pacific Railway built a line from Anaheim through southern Santa Ana down into downtown from North Park Boulevard just northwest of Broadway junction with I-5 Baptist Memorial Hospital District property that had been donated by Drs Willard Harker Hughes Sr., Willis Wistar Hughes Jr., Dr Edwin Ayer Barnes and others including their families who lived there before Southern Pacific Railroad arrived...On January 1, 1912 Mayor John Fenton designated May Day Parade route southbound on 7th Street between Nueces and Soto streets..A year later on November 20, 1913 City Council voted to rename Downtown Disneyland after Walt Disney who had visited Disneyland Resort several times earlier that year during his trips to Southern California...On October 15 th 1945 World War II Veteran’s Day parade started out every day at 10 am down Main Street then turned due east along Redwood Avenue walked past MacArthur Park went up Patton Avenue turned back due west along Redwood Avenue then continued Services began
Santa Ana was founded on December 12, 1795 by Spanish soldiers and Navy officers as the mission of San Antonio de Bexar. The name may have originated from Saint Anthony of Padua who was reported to have preached at the original location. The first post office in the town was established in 1827. In 1868, a railroad station was built and later renamed after General Tom Donelson, who had fought in the Mexican-American War. In 1907, a water tower and pumping station were built in town. On October 16, 1957, Santa Ana became an incorporated city under California state law.
