Santa Ana is a city in Orange County, California. It was incorporated on December 14, 1857 and became a city on January 1, 1893. Santa Ana is the namesake of the Santa Ana River. The population was 153,716 at the 2010 census. The first permanent settler in what is now Santa Ana was Manuel Nieto who arrived in 1795 with his brother-in-law José Antonio Nazca and their families from Chihuahua, Mexico. They were among the earliest white people to live in this area when it was part of Spanish Mission San Gabriel Arcángel de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe (founded in 1769). Nieto leased land from Captain John Sutter for $300 per year and built his house near present-day downtown Santa Ana on February 24, 1800. This location would become the nucleus of what would later be called "the Townsite." A year later they received an additional grant of 2 square miles (5 km²) from Governor Luis Felipe De Anza to build more residency space within Mexican territory as part of Rancho San Diego del Norte - this grant also included land that forms today's Downtown Santa Ana. In 1808 Juan Crespí bought some adjacent property which he renamed Rancho Los Angeles de Acosta after himself and his wife Catarina de la Cruz Alvarado y Arroyave - granted by Gaspar de Portolà on November 15, 1769 following their visit to Monterey Bay area where he had been deputy governor under Hernando Buenaventura Teja. In 1814 Pio Pico sold 160 acres (65 ha) east of downtownSanta ana for $500 to Joaquin Miller who organized what would become known as "Los Angeles" - this area includes parts of today's Downtown Santa Ana including Embarcadero Plaza and North First Street. By 1850 over 1,000 residents lived within wallsνofPico's original town site - making it one of California's fastest growing towns during that period! On May 22, 1860 alcalde Francisco Javier Basile awarded a charter to "Alta California" or "High California", naming it after himself as part of efforts to promote Anglo settlement throughout most of Alta Californa; however only 20 families actually moved into High California because there were few available places to settle and many high priced real estate purchases had been made by early settlers before they received government approvals -==> Now we know why prices have increased so much since then! In 1881 El Pasoita Rey purchased 640 acres (250 ha) northeast cornerof present day Third Street & East Broadway from General Mariano Castro for $3 million dollars -==> This purchase marks the beginning of Hispanic settlement northward along Third Street ==== Downtown Santa Ana began seeing significant development soon thereafter with construction starting on City Hall in 1886 (=now Pilgrim Hall),Arena Park 1889 (=now Don Carlos Alvarez Stadium), Lawyer Building 1901 (=now Superior Courts Building), Masonic Temple 1903 (=now Provincial Court House), Baptist Church 1905 (=now Emmanuel United Methodist Church/Missionary Baptist Center), First National Bank 1911 (=now State Capitol building Complex)), Porter Hotel 1912 (=now Mayor’s Mansion/Porter House complex)) etc... until finally becoming fully finished by 1925 with completion of Civic Auditorium annexing Western Avenue... At its peak circa 1925 it housed over 50 businesses… On January 1st 1893 “City Of Santana” status was given to Santana by Governor Hiram Johnson along with other cities created during statewide reorganization process following American Civil War= => Nowadays Santana still experiences rapid growth due largely to its rich cultural heritage which has helped make it one OF THE Most Diverse Cities In Southern California ==== As Southern Californians migrated increasingly northward during the 20th century they brought new life and culture southward into Northern Anaheim such as developing areas around Rosemead Boulevard near Disneyland(1913-1975), Exposition Park(1945-1991), Hollywood Hills(1953-present) etc... until eventually becoming fully populated again by 2000 ===> Today you can find almost any denomination faith group practice services hereabouts without ever leaving your doorstep!!!

The area that now makes up Santa Ana was first settled by Native Americans, including Tongva and Chumash people who called it San Pedro de Atacama. In 1821, Mission Santa Ana was founded on land adjacent to what is today downtown Santa Ana by Father Junípero Serra and Brother José Antonio Regalado. The early history of Santa Ana includes military engagements with Mexican forces which led to annexation by Californio Mexico in 1821. A year later, on February 14th of that year, Mexico ceded Alta California to Spain as part of their defeat in the Mexican–American War In 1848, skirmishes between Ulysses S Grant’s American army and Francisco Moreno’s Mexican army at Palo Alto resulted in Grant taking control over much of northern Alta California from Moreno. In 1850, following his election as President of the United States through electoral vote rather than popular vote due to fraudulently purged voting rolls, Grant signed an act entitled "An Act for Suppression of Vice and its Connection with Crime" into law which granted federal authority over all aspects of life within Alta California without regard to state or local laws or governance structures established pursuant thereto On July 15th 1870 Governor Pico called a meeting at University Park across from City Hall where delegates were selected to organize what would become known as “The Municipal Corporation” or “City Council” That same day various merchants met at Masonic Lodge #2 (now part of First Baptist Church) located on Third Street near 6th Avenue for similar purposes A resolution passed calling for incorporation was presented but no action taken until November 10th when Mayor Thomas Wainwright moved for resolutions be put on a ballot for citizens to decide whether they desired incorporation into a new town or not On December 5th a petition drive commenced with 781 signatures collected by January 2nd 1870 when it was noticed that only 1/4 mile (1 km) separated Second and Third Streets making incorporation likely However despite this apparent progress incorporations did not take place until after March 4th 1870 when City Charter Revision Act providing for Incorporation into Municipal Corporations became law
