The Santa Barbara Air Force Station is home to the 1st Fighter Wing, which provides air support for Operation Desert Storm in 1991. The gift history of the station began with an aerial bombardment of Santa Barbara by American forces during World War I. The bombing was a response to German attacks on U.S. soil and it helped bring about the end of World War I. In 1942, the United StatesAAF reactivated the Santa Barbara AAF as part of its buildup to enter World War II. The wing served as fighter squadronrons throughout 1942-1943 before becoming Tactical Air Command's 9th Fighter Wing in 1944. From 1945-1946, they were part of Ninth Air Force and thenactivated Fifth Air Force at Randolph AFB, Texas until their return to Santa Barbara AAF in 1948 as part of Eighth Air Forces under First Lt. Gen Carl Spaatz Jr.. In 1951-1952, they again became Ninth AF and participated in exercises known as "Tiger" that involved flying across country at high altitudes against tactical targets such as armored vehicles and artillery batteries. The idea behind Gift Certificate Exchange is simple: it allows people within the Air Force to give back into society by exchanging small amounts of money for items that have value to them such as clothing, electronics, or other items. This system has been in place since 1992 and has helped improve relationships between Air Force members and civilians alike. In addition, it has allowed airmen and women who may not be able to purchase items on their own time to get something specialfor their friends or family memberailormeanwhile giving back some much-needed financial support.

In 1846, Mexico gained independence from Spain and created Alta California as part of its new nation; this area included most of what is now Santa Barbara County. The Mexican government decided to name the area after Saint Bartholomew, patron saint of travelers and traders, based on Catholic teachings that places great emphasis on pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela in southern Spain. Saint Bartholomew had several churches built in his honor including one in Antonia Creek which served as a parish church for many years until it burned down in 1906; the current building replaced it. In 1861, when American Civil War started, Ulysses S Grant sent an expedition up Monterey Bay to blockade Mexican ports; during this time there were few settlements along or near Isla Vista Peninsula due to lack of food or water supplies caused by good soil conditions only accessible through sailing or walking inland.. On November 25th 1863 minor skirmishes took place off Point Conception while Confederate forces attacked Fort Mescalero north of town making use of local caves for cover however no casualties occurred
