In Santa Barbara, air force gift history can be traced back to the early days of the military in the city. On July 10th, 1915, a group of officers and men from the Santa Barbara Air Force Base founded what would become known as the Santa Barbara Air Museum. The museum was started with donations of clothes, equipment and memorabilia collected by members of the community. In 1941, during World War II, a new hangar was built onsite and it became known as “The Hangar at Night” because it served as home to bomber planes during wartime. Today, the Santa BarbaraAir Force Museum is one of America’s most popular tourist attractions and its collection of aircraft has grown to include more than 100 different types of airplanes. The museum also offers educational programs about aviation history and how it has impact on our everyday lives. It is the county seat of Santa Cruz County and the largest city in Santa Clara County by area. The town of Santa Barbara was founded on November 15, 1853 by Spanish missionaries as part of the mission system in what is now Southern California. On May 14, 1850, Mission San Miguel de Asís (now Downtown) became the first post office in what would become Santa Barbara. The town's growth was due to its location at the mouth of Los Angeles River and its convenient access to ocean waves for surfing; it began receiving mail from various parts of Southern California through a channel that ran between Point Conception and Yorba Linda. In 1861–1862 two more missions were built within walking distance of each other: La Jolla Cathedral and San Carlos BorromeoMissionaries had also hoped to find water source for their new colony so they named their new town after one or more saints who had diednearby—Rufino’s father being among them. However as time passed there were no reported discoveries anywhere near downtown Santa Barbara somissionaries decided instead to name their new town after Juan Bautista Orozco y la Maza (1795-1872), captain general of Mexico duringthe Mexican Revolution who had been living in Monterey Peninsula since 1847 In 1875 Vincenzo Belli developed Carpinteria which bounded downtown on three sides while creating an open space on the fourth side which became known as "The Promenade". This area later became Ocean Beach when Buena Park annexed it in 1907 On October 15, 1888 local citizens voted to incorporate as a city under then-U.S. federal law No state laws prevented this action although incorporation did not occur until December 9th In 1893 president Grover Cleveland signed into law legislation makingSanta Barbara an incorporated city with streets numbered 1-9 starting with Street #1 along Harbor Drive

The USAF gift history goes back to the early days of the USAF. In 1948, two years after World War II ended, Congress authorized the United States Air Force to be formed and named in honor of service members who had died in that war. The first AF unit was activated on Dec. 1, 1948, at Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio. On July 15, 1949, AF units were redesignated as fighter wings and assigned numbers from 1 through 9. In 1957 general manager of the USAF Systems Command General Curtis LeMay announced that all new commands would be placed under a single command authority with headquarters at Langley AFB Virginia instead of each base commanding officer reporting directly to their respective commanders. This new organization was called Headquarters Allied Forces Europe (HAEF). From then on untilactivated in 1991 it reported directly to Secretary of Defense Caspar Weinberger. Inactivated on Sept 15th 1991 when IAF was absorbed into CENTCOM pursuant to recommendations made by Vice Admiral John Poindexter during his tenure as Chief of Naval Operations
Santa Barbara, California is a city located in San Luis Obispo County, California. The population was 61,657 at the 2010 census. Santa Barbara's history goes back to 1795 when it became part of Rancho El Cajon. In 1853, the town was founded by Captain John Waddell as an agricultural outpost on Point Conception about 12 miles south of what is now downtown Santa Barbara. It grew rapidly due to its location and natural resources: shipbuilding, winemaking, and fishing were significant industries in the early years of the town’s existence. The City of Santa Barbara was incorporated on March 15, 1892. By 1916 the population had reached 1002 residents and by 1920 it had grown to 2400 residents with a Custom House built that year. The business community soon began expanding beyond the original boundaries of downtown into neighborhoods such as North Park and East Village. In 1934–35 a project known as “The Great Highway Project” was undertaken which increased commercial development near Alum Rock Road (now State Route 8) while preserving rural character within Santa Barbara County for future generations. The resulting boulevards gave new life to many old buildings and opened up much of Downtown Santa Barbara for retail use during this period; notable examples are Mission Plaza and State Street Business District. On September 2nd, 1974—the date after over 35 years without an earthquake—an historic magnitude 6.0 earthquake struck southern California causing extensive damage both inside and outside ofSantaBarbaraCity Limits; including loss or destruction to over 1/3 million dollars worth of property estimated in Market Place alone A major reconstruction effort followed withHelp from local businesses who financed most aspects including replacement windows throughout City limits which reopened in time for Christmas 1975
