The current Santa Clara Christmas Gift Tradition is started by Company Commander 1st Battalion, 3rd Marines Lt.(jg) Sean O'Brien and continues to this day with help from Headquarters Company, Marine Light Infantry Regiment 5th Marine Division who provide donations of ornaments to be given out as gifts during December 25th each year (O'Brien 2016). This tradition allows Marines and their families stationed overseas to have a special holiday season while they are also providing support to our local community back home.
